I’m not exactly sure where to start. Usually when I write my short stories I give a brief description of my main character and a background story, but this is about me. I’ve never written about myself before. My English teacher in high school always told me to write about myself and I kept telling her, “My life is a complete boring mess, no one wants to hear about it.”, but now I may actually have something interesting to write about.

I guess I’ll start with the fact that my parent’s died when I was thirteen years old, and ever since then, I’ve had a hard time figuring out where I belong. As a kid, its okay to not know what you want to do in life, but as I grow closer to my mid twenties, my flakey career decisions just look more and more pathetic. The only thing I’ve ever really been interested in is writing and photography. Unfortunately for me, neither one of those hobbies cover the rent every month, so I serve tables at a local pub downtown to get extra cash.

It’s been ten years since my folk’s have passed, and I’m still searching for a straight path to walk on. Well, up until today that is. I was given some sense of direction when my mom’s old best friend, Nancy something, stopped by to give me a small box filled with some belonging’s that my folks never had the chance to give me. It was collecting dust in Nancy’s attic and she apparently had forgotten about it.

I’m not going to lie to you, it took me a few hours to open it. This was something new, from my parents who I hadn’t seen or talked to in ten years. I wanted to keep this feeling for as long as I possibly could. Unless Nancy showed up again with another shipment. Seriously, who the fuck doesn’t look in their attic for an entire decade?!

Anyway, the box was filled with a year’s worth of love letters my folks had written each other when they were teenagers, some vintage daggers (which I thought was odd), a photo of them together at some camp it looked like, a compass, and a few shirts. This meant nothing to me, I mean, my father was a banker and my mother was a teacher. I was confused as to why they wouldn’t have given me this box of old crap earlier. I didn’t understand the meaning behind it. I looked over everything again and again, and then I looked a little bit closer. On the back of the photo my mother had written an address and a name, “Charles Lucius,” followed by, “he will have all the answers you’re looking for.”

“Great…” I sighed, “Another treasure hunt.”

My folks had me chasing mysteries my entire life. Starting on my seventh birthday and every year following, they’d hand me a map and compass before telling me to go find my gift. This took me hours. Eventually I learned how to read a map like the back of my hand and instead of three hours of searching, it took about one.

So, after doing some light research, I discovered that this camp they were photographed at (which ended up being the address written on the photo), was roughly two hours away. I had two days before I had to go back to work. Not wanting to waste anymore time, I packed a weekend bag and headed to the bus station.

Alone with Him

November 8th, 2015

I arrived at the camp just as the sun was setting behind the tree’s. Standing before me was a large gate with a fence surrounding the perimeter. “They take this camping thing seriously…” I mumbled to myself as I approached one of the guards standing at the entry. I showed him my identification, explained who I was, and why I was there. Grabbing his phone, he made a call and just moments later he was showing me past the fence and into the camp. He walked me to the housing community which was made up of six little cabins surrounding the main lodge, and he explained to me that Charles will be meeting me just through the main lodge doors.

As I entered the building, I took a quick glance around. It looked like this is where they have their morning and afternoon gatherings. Shutting the door behind me, my eyes settled on the lit fireplace, and the man leaning against it. I took another quick look around, realizing it was just him and I in the room before acknowledging his presence.

“Hi,” I said softly as I approached him, he looked a few years older than me to my surprise, so 27-28 maybe. He was about six feet tall, dark hair, broad shoulders, firm chest, nice big arms. I cleared my throat, “I’m looking for Charles Lucius…” I explained as I continued to look him up and down. He was wearing some black combat boots, dark jeans, and a fitted black button up with a leather jacket pulling the look together nicely.

He squared his shoulders as I approached him and looked down at me with a furrowed brow “Call me Charlie.” He said holding out a hand to shake. His grip was strong and rough, you can tell he’s the type of man who works with his hands. “Forgive me, but what is an innocent girl like yourself doing in the middle of the woods at night, asking to speak with a stranger?” He asked with a head tilt as he released my hand.

A little taken back by his comment, I matched his expression with my own “My name is Katherine Fox, daughter of James and Katrina Fox. They told me to come speak to you, that you would have the answers to my questions…” I said folding my arms over my chest.

He let out a small chuckle, “Listen, Kate, your parents should have known better than to send their daughter here with a few questions and a recorder. A simple phone call would have sufficed. Now run home to mommy and daddy, yea? Us grown ups have some work to do.” He said before walking past me, heading to the front door.

“My folks are dead.” I snapped as I watched him and continued talking as he came to a halt” That’s why I’m here. I’m looking for some answers, now are you going to help me or not?” I asked frustrated. Why did this guy let me in here if he was just going to waste my time? I wondered.

He turned on his heel to look at me, “Tell me Kate, what is it that you do back home?” he asked.

“I’m a writer.” I replied simply as I dropped my hands to my sides.

He let out another small chuckle and tried to cover it up by scratching the scruff on his jaw, “And what is it that you write about?” he asked. He wasn’t taking me seriously.

“Erotic fiction novels.” I said taking a step towards him.

His smile faded as he raised a brow, “Is that right?” he asked looking me up and down as I stepped closer to him.

I nodded “That’s right,” I said as I reached him, we were now toe to toe. “See, if I were writing this scene out, right here, we wouldn’t be talking.”

He looked interested now, locking eyes with me as he spoke “What exactly would we be doing then?” he asked.

I took note of his chest starting to rise and fall at a quicker pace now as he waited for my response,” You would have me bent over this couch as you guided your hard cock into my wet pussy.” I started,” You would move slow at first, wanting to feel every inch of me, but then I beg you to fuck me harder.” I grinned, “Eventually you give me what I want by grabbing me by the hips and slamming your dick into me over and over again, making sure I cry out with every thrust.” I said tilting my jaw up towards his, “I’m not as innocent as you think, Sparky.” I whispered up to him.

His entire demeanor changed. He was now leaning into me, and I watched his lips curl into an evil grin as I felt his hand wrap around to the small of my back, pulling my body tight against his.

Running my hand up his chest and around his neck, my mouth watered as I imagined what this gorgeous man tasted like.

“Sorry I’m late, darling!” Said an older man walking through the front doors. He was busy looking at the books in his hands as he entered the building, so Charlie and I had a chance to step away from each other before he caught us.

“Oh, look at you!” He said walking up to me, “You look just like your mother.” He said running his thumb across my flushed cheek.

“Are…you Charles Lucius?” I asked, looking from man to man.

“Oh, call me Lou!” He said with a big smile “And I see you’ve already met my son, Charlie.” He said patting his son on the shoulder before walking over to the table to set down his books.

“Son?” I laughed “Oh my…” I said looking at Charlie.

Charlie took my hand and brought it up to his mouth “It was a pleasure meeting you, Kate.” He whispered before kissing my hand.

“I wish I could say the same.” I whispered, pulling my hand back.

“Well, I’ll leave you both to it.” He nodded his father goodbye, “Kate.” He said with a wink before heading out the door.

“So!” Lou rubbed his hands together, “You said you had some questions about your parents…”

The Truth with a Side of Oral

November 11th, 2015

After taking a few seconds to regain my focus, I turned my attention to Lou. “Uh, yea….” I blinked, “…Yea…” I whispered to myself as I walked over to him.

“What would you like to know, dear?” Lou asked taking a seat at the head of the table.

I ruffled through my bag and pulled out the photo of my parents, along with the two daggers and set them on the table in front of him. “They left me this.” I said taking a seat to his left, “I just found them this morning.”

Lou took the photo in his hand and looked at it for a few silent moments, a smile growing on his face before he looked at me. “And what was your question?” he asked with a humored look on his face.

I took in a deep breath and thought about it, “What were they doing here?” I asked with a shrug “Why did they keep this from me? It’s…just a photo.” I said, confused.

“Maybe you weren’t the one they were keeping it from.” He said softly, “Things were… different, back then.” He explained

“Different, how? What is this place?” I asked, shaking my head.

He was hesitant, “When your parents were members of this camp, Katherine, they were considered private contractors.” He started

“And by contractors… you mean?” I asked.

“I mean they were trained to handle certain people in certain situations.” He said with a raised brow.

I thought about it, “So kill. They were trained to kill.” I let out a small laugh,” Kill who? Bad guys? Robbers? The guy who always forgot to leave off onions on my dad’s hot dog? What?” I asked with a frustrated tone.

“Are you going to listen?” He asked.

Clenching my jaw, I sat back in my chair and let him speak.

“Their targets were from all over the world…All different types of mankind.” He explained, “Your mother and father were very good at what they did, Katherine. If a client needed someone taken care of, they were the first to be sent out.”

“Who could possibly have that many enemies, to where my parents could make an actual career out of this?” I asked.

“We had a long list of trusted clients. We worked for them and only them, and they kept us busy.” He said with a nod.

“You keep saying ‘we’, who were you to them?” I asked

He took in a breath and let it out with a smile, “I was their mentor.” He said simply.

I thought about it, “So…do you still… I mean,” I looked around, “Do you still do that sort of thing here?” I asked.

He shook his head, “No. After about five busy years, the government started to get suspicious. They had an idea of what was going on, so they began to watch our every move. They constantly waited for one of us to slip up somehow. It eventually became too difficult to even leave the state so our six founding members, your parents being two of them, ended up coming to an agreement and we shut the system down.” He shrugged “We all went our separate ways, whether anyone kept doing business on the side, I don’t know.”

I had so many questions, “That still doesn’t make sense why my folks would hide a photo and a few weapons in my neighbors attic. ” I said shaking my head, “I mean, did they make enemies…Or?”

Lou shrugged “After we closed down the camp, the feds raided everyone’s homes. That’s probably why they hid the things they kept, and trashed everything else.”

“Huh.” I said as I stared at the table. I didn’t know what to think. “So why is this place up and running again?” I asked looking over at him.

“It’s a self-defense training camp now for the following generations of the six founding members.” He said and leaned in to grab my hand, “In one way or another, Katherine, you belong here. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to stay, but know if you ever need a place to go, you can come here.” He said and handed me a key, “Its getting late. You can stay in the guest cabin over night, and if you think of any more questions to ask you can come find me in the morning.” He said standing up. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, dear. I was very sorry to hear about what happened to James and Katrina.” He said softly before grabbing his books and heading out the door.

A few minutes later, I walked out of the main lodge in a daze. Standing outside, breathing in the chilly air helped me come out of my foggy state and concentrate on finding the guest cabin. On my short walk there I heard something in the ally between the guest cabin, and cabin number one. Walking up on my porch, I leaned over the railing to make sure I was just hearing things. Only I wasn’t.

Charlie was leaning against the side of cabin, facing me. His eyes were closed and his lips were parted. I was about to ask him what the hell he was doing, when I heard a small muffled moan, but not coming from Charlie. My eyes trailed down his body and stopped as I watched a woman’s head bob back and forth as she knelt in front of him.

Refraining from making a sarcastic comment, I bit my lip and surprisingly stayed silent. I watched as the brunette took his cock out of her mouth just long enough to ask “You like that, baby?” Before taking all of him in her mouth once more.

Eagerly waiting for a response myself, my eyes trailed back up to his face, only this time his eyes were open and he was staring right at me.

“Don’t stop.” He moaned, not taking his eyes off me as he grabbed her by the hair and started pushing his shaft deeper down her throat.

I slowly stood up straight, not breaking our eye contact. Do I play into this? I asked myself. Moving my hips just the slightest, I felt my panties dampen and I couldn’t help but think that was my answer.

I started to guide my hand under my belt line, and I watched as Charlie’s eyes became wild as he nodded for me to keep going.

Grinning, I slowly pulled my hand from out of my pants, held it up in a fist, and lifted my middle finger in Charlie’s direction.

He let out a deep short chuckle as he watched me, completely ignoring the woman kneeling at his feet as she moaned with pleasure.

Slowly, I brought my middle finger to my mouth and sucked it from base to tip before I gave him a wink and walked into the cabin, locking the door behind me.

November 13th, 2015

I woke early the next morning to a loud banging on my cabin door. Stumbling around the unfamiliar room, I pulled on some shorts, not wanting to answer the door in my underwear and t-shirt.

“What?” I asked, flinging the door open.

Charlie stood there with a coffee mug in one hand, and a small box in the other “Rise and shine, Fox. I got a delivery.” He said pushing past me, setting the box on the bed.

“Have. You have a delivery.” I said shutting the door and looking at him “What is it?” I asked as I grabbed the coffee mug out of his hand and took a sip.

My coffee for starters…” He said trying to take it back but I swatted his hand away.

He responded with a sigh as he leaned against the dresser and folded his arms over his chest “Lou wanted to make sure you received that before you left. It’s just a bunch of photos and maps of the grounds, blueprints…” He shrugged, “Anyway, you can look at that later, Lou wants me to take you to the weapons shed.”

I raised a brow, “Weapons shed?” I asked looking over at him.

Charlie stood up straight, “Yes. The shed where we keep all the weapons. So get dressed, I have a schedule.”

I sighed as I grabbed my weekend bag and carried it into the bathroom with me. After getting cleaned up, a few minutes later I walked out dressed in a pair of jeans, a grey t-shirt, and a black zip up hoodie. “Why are we heading to the place where all the weapons live?” I asked him as I pulled on my boots.

“To be honest, I couldn’t possibly give a fuck.” He said opening the door and walking out on the porch.

“Good to know.” I said with a sigh as I grabbed my red scarf and headed out the door.

Charlie led us to a path that began at the entrance of the forest, “It’s just through here..” He said as he started walking.

I looked at our surroundings before I followed him into the thick forest, “Why is it so quiet out here?” I asked him.

“Tell me you did not just ask that question…” He said shaking his head as he kept walking.

“I mean, where is everyone?” I asked.

“Breakfast.” He said, clearly not in the mood to talk.

Not enjoying the awkward silence, I began to hum a tune over and over. It finally got to him.

“What is that?” He asked over his shoulder.

“What is what?” I asked, confused.

“That song your humming, what is it?” He asked.

“Little Red Riding Hood.” I replied.

“Interesting choice.” He said, slowing his pace.

“Well, I figure, A blonde with a red scarf following a mysterious man into the woods…” I shrugged.

He stopped walking and turned to face me, “Are you implying I’m the big bad wolf?” He asked looking down at me.

I grinned “I don’t know, are you going to eat me?” I whispered.

Slowly, he reached out to trace my jaw line with his thumb as he took a step closer to me so we were only inches apart. He then tilted my head up so I was looking him in the eyes before he said, “I would devour you.” with a husky tone.

My heart started to race. I couldn’t help but wonder if that was a threat or a promise. Either way I took it though, it was hot as fuck. I leaned in just the slightest to let him know I wasn’t threatened by him being that close, but when I moved forward, he took a step backwards before he dropped his hand and continued to walk down the path.

Annoyed, I watched him walk away as I became more and more sexually frustrated. What the fuck was I thinking?! Stop showing interest in this fool, get what you came for, and go home! I thought to myself as I followed him.

I’m not sure why they call it a shed, it was more like a large shipping container painted camo to blend in with the surrounding forest. When I walked up to it, Charlie already had it unlocked and was moving some boxes around inside. There were weapons hanging from the walls and ceilings, there were weapons in boxes and on top of boxes, weapons i had never even seen before. They had a weapon for every category it looked like. Firearms, Bladed Weapons, Blunt Weapons, Anti-tank, Archery…I was in awe.

Admiring one of the recurve bows, I pulled it from its hanging place on the wall just as Charlie got a call on his cell phone, making me jump. Him and I looked at each other before he answered it, walking out of the shed.

A few seconds later he walked back in, “I have to head back to camp, Lou will be meeting you here in a minute.” He sighed as he walked up to me, “Try not to touch anything…” He said taking the bow out of my hand and placing it back on the wall.

“You think I’m gonna get hurt?” I asked him, a little offended.

He turned to me, a serious look on his face, “Yes, I think you’re going to get hurt.” He whispered before pulling me to him by the back of my neck and kissing me hard.

Taking a step forward, he pushed me back into a bare wall and pinned by body against it with his as he forced his tongue into my mouth eagerly. I felt his hands roam my body freely, massaging my breasts, running down my sides, grabbing at my hips.

I let out a soft moan as I kissed him back just as eagerly. Pushing my hips into his, I felt my knee’s weaken as the large bulge in his jeans pushed against my groin. There was something about this man that drove me wild, I had never wanted someone so badly before. I must admit, lust was a nice color on me.

“I have to go.” he whispered between kisses.

“Right…” I whispered back, trying to convince myself to push him away but not finding the will to.

Thankfully he made the move and slowly stopped kissing me, but he didn’t move away. We sat there for a few seconds catching our breaths, slowly distancing ourselves from one another.

“Lou should be here any minute…” He said adjusting his shirt.

“Thanks…” I said with a nod.

He leaned in again, only this time he kissed me gently, “Later, Red.” He whispered against my lips before walking out of the shed and down the path.

I stood there smiling like an idiot for a good two minutes before I snapped myself out of my reverie. Roaming around the shed on cloud nine, I softly sang:

“Hey there little Red Riding Hood,

You sure are lookin’ good,

You’re everything a big bad wolf could want..”

Three’s a Crowd

November 19th, 2015

Shortly after Charlie left, Lou arrived. He gave me a tour of the grounds, starting with the weapons shed because he believes that’s where my folks fell in love.

“Somewhere between the RPG and the shot gun.” He said, making me smile.

The tour took about two hours, which surprisingly flew by. Lou had a story for every place we stopped at, everything involving my folks. Even though I was very interested in the stories he was telling me, my mind at times still wandered to Charlie. His lips, his hands, the way he didn’t ask permission and just took what he wanted. I bit my lip to stop myself from smiling. I was acting like my typical old self. Swooning over guys who weren’t right for me, but who also weren’t bad to look at. Did I honestly think I had a future with this guy? Or was he just part of this exciting adventure? The real question was, do I want to stick around long enough to get feelings for the guy and then be screwed over like every other time I’ve been in a relationship?

The answer was, no. No I did not want to stick around long enough to get feelings for him and have it bite me in the ass in a few months. So when I got back to my cabin, I packed up my stuff immediately. I told Lou I had to work the next day so I would be leaving soon, and to tell Charlie bye for me.

I know what you’re thinking, “How can I leave without saying goodbye” Right? Lets just say, I’m not one for goodbyes. They’re messy. Just as messy as kissing a hot stranger in the forest. Its better if I just… don’t.

So I got on the next bus, and I left. I had two very long hours to daydream about my experience with the big bad wolf, but once I arrived back in the city, I vowed to not obsess over it. My five-minute walk home from the bus station I told myself to let it go. It was fun, but now its over.

With a sigh, I reached my third floor loft and walked in the front door. Immediately I found myself with a distraction. My boyfriend.

“Hey babe! Where have you been?” This tall blonde hunk yelled to me from the kitchen.

“John,” I sighed, “I forgot you were going to be here.” I said dropping my bag as I closed the door.

“I thought that was our deal, after I had my last anger management class I could start staying over here again…” John said walking up to me, kissing me on the cheek.

“Well we haven’t exactly discussed-”

“I’m making stir fry!” John said interrupting me as he walked back into the kitchen.

“I’m.. gonna take a shower.” I said grabbing my bag as I headed into the bathroom.

Turning on the shower head, I waited for the water to warm up as I slowly got undressed, my head was all of a sudden cloudy. John did that to me. He was a twenty-five-year-old personal trainer, and he had the body of one too. That’s not the reason I was so cloudy, though. John and I have been off and on for a year now. He cheated on me after a few months of us getting serious, he then begged for a second chance and I gave it to him. A while after that he started to have a short temper, breaking things when he got mad. He never laid a hand on me but one night he destroyed my apartment. The cops were called, he paid for the damages, and had to attend three months of anger management. Now he apparently thinks were back together and everything is fine.

I took my time in the shower, not wanting to deal with the night that laid before me. After I towel dried my body and hair, I pulled on my red satin sleep shirt that ended at the middle of my thigh and walked out of the bathroom. John was sitting on the couch eating.

“Hey,” I said sitting next to him, “We should probably talk…”

“Okay but this movie just started so lets talk after.” He whispered to me as he turned up the volume.

I sighed and walked in the back room where my office was. I hadn’t written in what felt like ages, so I sat down, pulled my hair up into a messy bun, and started a new story.

Four hours went by and I hadn’t even looked up from the computer until I heard the bathroom door shut and the shower turn on. I guess we’ll have that talk tomorrow, I thought. Deciding I should give myself a break, I headed to the kitchen to make some coffee when I heard a knock at the door. With a frown I checked the time, it was 7:30pm. My neighbor usually gets home from work about this time, she probably forgot her keys or something. So I walked to the door and opened it with a small smile, thinking I was greeting my neighbor when I look up and see Charlie leaning against the door frame, towering over me.

“Charlie…” I said taking a step back so he wasn’t so close, “What the hell are you doing here?” I asked.

Charlie grinned, “Miss me?” He asked taking a step forward.

“How did you find me here?” I asked not realizing as he was stepping forward, I was backing up, allowing him to come in.

“Oh I have my ways…” He said shutting the door behind him, “You look good in red, kid.”

“You can’t be here.” I said softly.

“You didn’t say bye, my feelings were hurt.” He said reaching out and taking the collar of my shirt between his two fingers. He then slowly ran his finger across the exposed skin on my chest, until his finger rested on a button between my breasts.

“We both know you don’t have feelings so why are you here?” I managed to ask as I took another step back away from him.

“Do you have a roommate?” He asked, taking a glance around the loft.

“Not exactly…” I said, not making eye contact with him.

“Is there another man here?” He asked with a deep laugh.

“Would you keep your voice down? The last thing I need is-”

“Hey babe, do we have any more toothpaste?” John said stepping out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist, “Oh, hey…” He said surprised to see another man in the living room.

“John, this is Charlie, he’s a…” I started.

“An old friend. Red and I go way back.” Charlie finished for me.

“Red?” John asked.

“Oh,” Charlie laughed, “Kate.”

John raised a brow, “An old friend of Katie’s? I didn’t think she had any” He laughed, “Give me a second to get dressed.” John said walking into the bedroom.

I spun around to look at Charlie, “You need to leave.”

“I think I’ll stay.” He said as he pulled off his leather jacket “You don’t mind, do ya Katie?”

“Do not call me Katie.” I said through gritted teeth, “And yes, I mind.”

Charlie took a seat at the kitchen table, ignoring my protest.

“What are you doing here, Charlie?” I asked sitting across from him.

He sighed, “I was in the city looking for a friend.” He explained.

I raised a brow at him, “I wouldn’t consider us friends.”

“I didn’t mean you.” He said sitting back in his chair.

John came walking in wearing some sweats, “So, Charlie, are you from around here?” He asked.

“Nah, brother. The city is no place for a wolf.” Charlie grinned.

John stood next to me, “How long are you in town for?” He asked.

“Heading back tomorrow afternoon.” He explained.

“So you have time for a beer then!” John said walking into the kitchen and grabbing three beers.

I stood up “I’ll be in my office; I need to finish writing.”

“You sure you don’t want to have a beer with the guys?” Charlie asked with a smirk, “I’m sure we can find a topic were all interested in.” He said looking me up and down.

“I hate you.” I whispered before I grabbed a beer out of John’s hand and walked back to my office, shutting the door behind me.

One hour and one beer later, I hesitantly made my way back out into the kitchen. They had jazz music going as they played cards at the kitchen table. “Miles Davis?” I asked them as I grabbed a cold water from the fridge.

“I’m trying to educate Johnny boy here on the classics.” Charlie said as he watched me.

John stood up, “I don’t get it. How do you get anyone to play with you, man? You cheat! You’re a cheater!” He slurred. “I’m going to bed baby…” He said walking up to me, kissing me on the cheek. “And you, you son of a bitch,” He pointed at Charlie, “I’ll get you one day, man… I’ll get you…” He mumbled before walking into the bedroom and shutting the door.

“He’s…not what I expected.” Charlie said grabbing the empty beer bottles and placing them in the sink.

“How many beers did he have? And what did you expect?” I asked, leaning against the counter.

“Does it matter?” He asked walking up to me.

I swallowed, “No, it doesn’t.”

“I should go…” he said looking down at me.

I nodded, “Yea, you should…” I said softly. I felt my heart beat picking up the longer we looked at each other.

“You should go crawl in bed with your boyfriend…” He whispered.

“Fuck you.” I whispered back before I pulled him against me by his shirt and kissed him with more passion than before.

He didn’t hesitate. I heard a deep moan rumble in his throat as he kissed me back, “If you want me to stop, now is the time.” He said against my lips as he picked me up by the ass and set me down on the counter.

I didn’t verbally answer him, I just lifted his shirt over his head and dropped it on the kitchen floor. His body was sculpted and thick. I noticed a few scars on his upper body but I couldn’t focus on that when he had his rough hands literally ripping off my panties.

“Oh my god…” I whispered as he forced my legs open and began kissing my inner thigh. What the hell was I doing? My boyfriend was sleeping in the other room while I was-

“Fuck.” I whispered as I became dizzy with pleasure. His left hand was massaging my breast as his hot tongue circled my swollen clit. As if that wasn’t enough for him, he used his free hand to slip two fingers in and out of my wet slit.

My hand found his hair as my back arched involuntarily. I tugged at his thick head of hair as I felt my climax building, “Charlie,” I moaned, “I’m so close…”

“No, no, no…” He whispered as he stopped everything he was doing and stood up straight, “You cum when I say you can cum, understand?” He whispered as he pulled me off the counter and into his arms.

I slid down his body and got to my feet. “Come on.” I whispered as I took his hand and lead him into the spare bedroom.

“How does it make you feel knowing I’m going to be fucking you as your boyfriend sleeps in the next room?” Charlie whispered in my ear as he pressed his chest into my back. His hands roamed the front of my body, unbuttoning my long red shirt.

“It’s wrong.” I whispered, sliding my shirt off my body and onto the floor, “And this wont happen again.”

He turned me around so I was facing him, “Is that right?” He whispered as he unzipped his pants.

I swallowed, “Yes.” I said as I dropped to my knees and pulled his jeans down to his ankles. His large erection sprung out of its holding place and my mouth watered as I licked him from base to tip. Licking my lips, I took hold of his shaft and guided him into my mouth. He was large so I had a hard time adjusting to it at first, but once I got going, I didn’t want to stop.

Charlie moaned as he thrusted himself into my mouth, holding my head still as he pushed himself deeper and deeper into the back of my throat. Just as I began to massage his balls, he picked me up and pushed me onto the bed.

I could feel him staring at me as he stepped out of his jeans. I wasn’t use to so much attention, I almost started to blush, “See anything you like?” I asked staring back at him.

I saw a grin grow on his face as he slowly crawled on top of me, “You’re gorgeous.” He whispered in my ear before he softly bit my neck.

I closed my eyes as I ran my hands down his toned back, “Fuck me.” I begged, “Now.” I whispered.

Charlie lifted his head so he could meet my gaze as he guided himself into me. I was wet enough that he slipped in with ease, pushing deeper into me with each thrust. “My god.” He whispered as he sat up, grabbing my hips so he could thrust harder into me.

It was a welcoming pain, the way he filled me completely. I couldn’t keep my voice down. I didn’t care anymore. When he started thrusting in and out of me, harder and faster, I couldn’t help but let out a loud moan every time. My hands went to the headboard so I could stop myself from sliding forward.

“Keep your arms above your head.” He demanded before he pulled out of me and flipped me onto my stomach, “Get on your knees.”

I did as he asked, I got on my knees, keeping my head on the pillow.

“Good girl.” He said before he pushed himself into me roughly. “You feel fucking amazing.” He moaned as he started pumping in and out of me again.

I gripped the sheets and moaned into the pillow as he rammed into me harder and faster. My climax was building again and I didn’t want him to stop. “Charlie” I moaned, “I want to cum…”

He reached down and pulled me into a sitting position by my neck, “You wanna cum, love?” He whispered in my ear as he pushed deeper into me.

“Yes” I begged.

“I want to feel you cum, baby.” He whispered.

“Oh god yes!” I whispered, that pushed me over the edge. I came, hard. I could feel myself pulsing around him as I came for what felt like minutes. My entire body trembled.

His grip got a little tighter on my throat as I came, “You are mine. Do you understand me?” He growled in my ear before pushing me back down on the bed. His pace went from slow, to fast, and back to slow. I could feel him fighting the urge to finish, not wanting this euphoria to end… but before I could have a say in it, he tightened his grip on my hips and slammed into me harder and harder until he pulled out and came all over my back, growling with pleasure as he finished himself off.

I was gasping for air by the time we were done. I couldn’t believe what just happened and how hot it was.

He collapsed next to me after he cleaned me off, pulling me to him so my head rested on his chest, “That was…”

“Amazing…” I whispered.

“Very needed…” He said with a small laugh.

I pulled the blanket over us and rolled on my back, yawning “Are you staying or leaving?” I asked looking over at him.

“I can stay for a while. ” He whispered before he kissed me on the top of my head.

“I was serious when I said this couldn’t happen again so I hope you enjoyed yourself…” I said with a grin.

“We’ll see about that.” He said wrapping his arm around me, “Get some sleep, you’ve had a long day.”

I let out another yawn as I curled up to his warm body. Slowly my eyelids got heavy and before I knew it, I was sleeping like a baby.

The next morning I woke up alone in bed. I sat up confused, but once I felt my soreness I suddenly remembered my night with Charlie. Here came that stupid grin again. I crawled out of bed and pulled on my night shirt, hoping I wouldn’t have to explain anything to John. As I walked into the kitchen, I noticed there was no trace of Charlie anywhere. “Hmm…” I said out loud, I didn’t remember him leaving in the middle of the night.

I quietly walked down the hallway and I all of a sudden felt dirty. What a bitch I was, doing something like this to John. Did he hear us? How drunk was he? I wondered as I paced in front of the bedroom door. Finally, I just opened it, letting some light into the dark room. “John.” I whispered and sat next to him in bed. He didn’t move.

“John, get up…” I said as I shook him by the shoulder. He didn’t budge. “John!” I said louder, this time opening the curtains so the light alone would wake him up, but once I shed light on the situation, something seemed wrong.

“John?” I asked. I leaned over to pull the covers off of him, noticing the blankets were wet. I frowned as I looked down at my hand, my finger tips were covered in blood. “Jesus Christ.” I whispered as I pulled the covers back, it looked like he had been stabbed several times in the ribs. “Oh my god…” I whispered stumbling back against the wall, my vision blurring with tears. He was dead. I slid down the wall, sobbing. Not knowing where my phone was to call the police. My entire body was shaking, I felt nauseous. There was only one explanation for this, only one other person in this loft since John went to bed… “Charlie.” I whispered.

Dazed and Confused

November 25th, 2015

The police arrived shortly after I pulled myself together and found my phone. Everything was such a blur, there were so many people I couldn’t keep track. Eventually, a detective pulled me outside to get some fresh air and to ask me what happened.

“How did you know the victim? Did you live together? Why were you sleeping in seperate bedrooms? Were you arguing? Does he have any enemies you know of? Do you have any enemies you know of? ” I mean this guy wouldn’t stop. I mostly responded with blinks and a slight head shake. What was I suppose to say? Actually detective, I was too busy fucking another man in the other room to notice anything strange, plus I slept really well that night on a count of all the fucking so even if there was a break in, I wouldn’t have heard it. Also, here’s the kicker, the man I was getting pounded by is more than likely the same man who stabbed John to death. Case closed. You’re welcome.

My loft was considered a crime scene now, which made it impossible for me to stay there. I honestly dont think I could ever sleep there again anyway. So I packed a bigger bag this time, called my work to let them know I couldn’t make it in until further notice, and headed out of the city.

I headed to my childhood home my parents left me that rested in suburbia, about thirty minutes out of the city. I take a bus ride there usually every other weekend to check up on the place, sometimes I drop in and say hello to Nancy. I’m not sure what to tell her about why I’ll be crashing there for a while but I’ll just cross that bridge when I come to it.

After the bus dropped me off, I had just a short walk through the subdivision to get to the house. All of the houses pretty much looked alike, tri level homes, privacy fences in the backyard, basketball hoops in the driveway, your average suburban household.

Ours in particular was a tan tri level with white shutters. I just had it repainted last summer so it looks more updated than the rest of the subdivision. I painted our privacy fence white, planted some red mums in our flower bed by the front porch, it was a nice place to get away.

Walking inside always made me a little emotional. Over the years it got better but, the smell of home always managed to choke me up. Standing in the entry way, I had the dining room and kitchen to my right, the living room to my left, and stairs in front of me. There was three bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom upstairs, one downstairs, a basement, etc. Your usual three-person home. I thought about selling it a while back, but I couldn’t get myself to do it. This was the only thing I had left of my folks, and I couldn’t give that up just for some quick cash.

“Home sweet home…” I whispered to myself as I wandered around the main level. I ended up at the kitchen table, sitting there thinking about my next move. I should have paid more attention to my surroundings after I found John. I should have done a lot of things but thats done and over with so now I have to figure out what to do next. The detective ordered me not to leave the state because, of course, I’m a suspect. He did also say to stay local in case they had to bring me into the station for further questioning, but i had questions that needed to be answered myself.

After I took a hot shower, I looked at myself long hard in the bathroom mirror. My nose and eyes were red from crying, but the tears made my green eyes bright. I couldn’t comb my hair without getting flashbacks of Charlie twisting my long blonde mane in his hand as he had his way with me. Squeezing my eyes shut, I tried to vanish the memory. I noticed I had a small bruise on my collar bone, a little circle of purple and green, bringing back the sound of him moaning and the feeling of his hot breath on my ear as he claimed me as his.

“Fuck.” I said as I stormed out of the bathroom. I got dressed in some fitted tan cargo pants and a white t-shirt. I pulled my hair into a ponytail, slipped on some brown knee high military boots, grabbed a light jacket, and headed to the garage.

I had a 2009, AWD, Black Dodge Charger waiting for me. I opened the garage door and listened to the V8 Hemi purr as I started her up. I called her Athena. In the city I didn’t have a place to park, and I usually walked everywhere, therefore I only needed her when I came to checkup on the house. As I climbed into the car I wondered if this was a smart idea, going to talk to Charlie. Accusing a man like that was a pretty risky decision, but he left me no choice. I made the decision to go and pulled out of the driveway with ease. I should have been planning how my conversation was going to go with Charlie, but instead I just cranked up the radio, and listened to rock the whole drive there.

It was the middle of the afternoon when I pulled up to the front gate of the camp. It just started to rain.

“Ms. Fox, welcome back.” The security guard said as I rolled down my tinted window, “What can I do for you?” He asked.

“I need to talk to Lou.” I lied and watched him make the call.

He came back to my window with an umbrella, “Lou said you can meet him at the Main Lodge, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to pop your trunk and hood so we can inspect your vehicle before we take you back.” He said.

I put the car in park and did as he asked. He had me open all four doors, lift the trunk and hood, and then stand back with the umbrella as two men circled my car with mirrors at the end of a long stick. They guided mirrors and flashlights all along and under my ground effects, looked at my door jams, looked inside the car, “They really do take this camping thing seriously…” I mumbled to myself as I watched them. It makes more sense of course now that I know what this camp is really about.

“Okay Ms. Fox, you’re in the clear. I can take you the Main Lodge now.” He said walking up to me.

“That’s alright, I know the way.” I said handing back his umbrella before I let down my hair and pulled up my hood.

He looked a little confused but gave me the nod and opened the gate for me.

My mind was racing. My heart was racing. I didn’t know what I was going to say or do when I saw Charlie. I just ran as fast as I could to the Main Lodge and busted through the front doors. Lou was standing there waiting for me. Scanning the room quickly, it looked like we were once again, alone.

“Where’s Charlie?” I asked walking up to him.

Lou frowned, “Charlie? Are you alright, dear? You seem flushed.”

“I need to talk to Charlie, please tell me where he is.” I asked ignoring his concern.

“He was taking inventory at the weapons shed last I checked, why?” Lou asked.

I didn’t answer him. I just walked out the door and ran to the trail. It’s a good thing I was headed to the place where they keep all the weapons because I had a bad feeling I might need one.

As I approached the field where the shed was, I heard Charlie on the phone “No, she’s fine, I’ll talk to her.” He said looking at the ground as he walked outside.

The rain slowly stopped as I stood there watching him. I pulled my hood down and combed my wet hair back with my fingers so it wasn’t in my face. Charlie must have caught sight of the motion because his head shot up and he looked right at me, making every muscle in my body tense up.

He kept his eyes on me as he ended the call and walked in my direction. He had a confused look on his gorgeous face. Furrowed brow, clenched jaw, lips tight together. He finally reached me and I swear to god, those brown eyes could have turned me to stone.

“Back for round two?” He asked looking down at me.

That was it. That comment gave me the courage to ball my left hand into a fist and swing it around as hard as I could, striking him in his jaw.

It felt like I broke every bone in my fucking hand but the look on his face was completely worth it.

He took a step back to catch himself from falling before he looked at me like I just…well, hit him in the face. He was pissed. He was even more pissed when I took a second swing at him. He blocked my left hook though and trapped my extended arm between his elbow and ribs. As he pulled me by my arm closer to him, he put an excessive amount of weight on my left shoulder before taking a big step forward, causing me to lose my footing and fall to the ground.

It was cold, and wet, and muddy, but neither of us seemed to care. He grabbed me by my ankles and slid me through the mud towards him so he was standing over me. Crouching down so his knees were on either side of my hips, he grabbed me by the wrists and slammed my hands to the ground above my head.

I squeezed my eyes shut. Flashbacks of him holding my arms down on the bed by my wrists as he slipped in and out of me came rushing back. I took in a sharp breath and finally looked up at him.

“You have one hell of a left hook, Red. You wanna tell me what I did to deserve that?” Charlie asked as he looked down at me.

“Did you not even give a shit that I would be the one to find him?” I asked, blinking away tears.

He frowned.

“Did you not think I would come here and face you?!?!” I snapped.

“Keep your God damn voice down.” He demanded.

“Get the fuck off of me.” I said trying to loosen his grip on my wrists but he just squeezed tighter.

“I’m not letting you go until you explain to me why you’re being a crazy bitch.” He said firmly. “Now calm down and talk to me like an adult, yea?”

I looked up at him confused, “Did John say anything to you before you left?” I asked.

“I left at three o’clock in the morning. He was still in the bedroom.” He explained.

“Did you see anyone when you left? Outside of the apartment? On my street? Anyone suspicious?” I asked him.

Charlie released my hands and slowly sat up straight, “What is going on, Kate?”

“John was murdered.” I blurted out. “He was stabbed to death in my bed. I found him around nine o’clock.” I said resting my weight on my elbows.

Charlie sat there blinking at me for a few seconds as he processed everything before speaking up, “And you thought I did it.” He said shaking his head before standing up. He helped me to my feet and forced me to look at him, “Listen to me carefully.” He demanded, “I don’t go around killing innocent people for no reason. Despite everything you think about me, I do have morals. Johns blood isn’t on my hands, and he didn’t seem like the guy who knew a lot of dangerous people. That means someone came to YOUR apartment, walked into YOUR bedroom, and thought they were killing YOU.”

I looked up at him, “So you’re saying I’m the reason John is dead?” I asked, suddenly fighting the urge to hit him again.

“No! I mean…” He sighed, “That means someone has been watching you.” He explained.

“What about you?” I asked raising my brow at him, “What if you were the one they were tracking down?” I asked, forcing myself out of his grip.

“Then I’ll handle it.” He said looking down at me. “In the mean time, you’re not safe alone. You can stay here, you can train, you can have the guest cabin-”

“No.” I said shaking my head, “I have a place to stay.”

“With someone?” He asked.

I shrugged, “I’m not in the mood to be around people.”

“Well you’re sure as hell not staying somewhere alone.” He said squaring his shoulder at me as if that would intimidate me into staying.

“Well I’m not staying here.” I said and looked up at the cloudy sky, ” The storm is passing…I gotta get back.”

“Get back to what, Kate? Jesus, just slow down for a second.” He said

“I don’t WANT to slow down, Charlie! Do you understand that? I don’t want to think! I need to stay as busy as possible and figure out what the hell is going on!” I snapped.

Charlie gave up, “Fine. Fine!” He said throwing his hands up, “I’ll get you a change of clothes before you leave.” He said before walking back to the shed to lock up.

Once he was finished, he handed me a key and told me to go wait in his cabin while he grabbed me some clothes. I was hesitant at first but I thought about it, and I really didn’t want to ruin the interior of my car. So I walked over to his cabin, took off my muddy boots by the front door, and stood in the living room as I waited for him. His cabin was larger than the guest cabin, it was like a little house. He had a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, even a loft upstairs. I took off my muddy hoodie as I walked into his bathroom and turned on the light. I was a mess. Mud in my hair, on my face, down my shirt. I peeked in his shower and saw men’s body wash and shampoo. “Hmm…” I thought as I looked from the big glass shower to the front door. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if I washed up really fast, right? I asked myself before I decide I didn’t care and turned it on. I found a fresh towel and hung it by the shower before peeling off my wet muddy clothes and closing the bathroom door. I stepped into the shower and relaxed against the hot water as the bathroom started to fill up with steam.

I began to lather my body with his soap, and the scent brought me back to last night. This time I didn’t want to fight it. I ran my hands over my breasts and down my flat stomach as I closed my eyes and thought back to Charlie’s rough hands expertly roaming my body. Nothing can explain the feeling you get when a man makes it verbally clear that you are what he wants, and after he confirms you want it to, he actually follows through and proves to you just how bad he’s been craving you. The way he makes your back arch and toes curl with the slightest touch. That’s not something you find in every man, but Charlie seemed to be an expert in it.

I found my hand running down and rubbing my now swollen clit as I held onto the memory of Charlie guiding himself into me for the first time, filling me completely. The way he took my breast in his mouth and teased my nipple with his teeth as he began to move in and out of me had me biting my lip then and now as I held back a moan.

I was pulled from my reverie as I heard a knock at the door. I jumped and dropped my hand to my side as I took in a deep breath, “Come in.” I said with a slight shaky voice.

The door opened and Charlie walked in and closed the door behind him, “I found you some PT sweats… I hope you like grey.” I said with a small laugh.

“Grey is fine, thank you.” I said. The glass on the shower door was all steamed up, but I watched Charlie’s figure set down the sweats and take off his jacket.

“We need to talk about some things.” He said as he hung his jacket on the back of the door.

I suddenly found the nerve to open the glass door and peek my head out “Get in here.” I demanded.

I watched the expression on his face go from surprised to serious as he began to undress. First he pulled his shirt over his head, and my mouth started to water as I saw his beautiful body in the light. He was nothing but muscle. His chest and arms alone made me wonder in the back of my mind how he found a leather jacket to fit.

I swallowed hard as he dropped his shirt on the ground and moved to his muddy jeans. He undid his belt before working on his button and zipper. He moved slowly, making me all the more nervous. Pushing his pants down to his ankles, he stepped out of them before walking towards me. I got a good look at his semi-hard cock and it made my knees weak. I didn’t have time to figure out the logistics of how he didn’t split me in half last night before he was kissing me and pushing us under the hot water.

He tasted like the crisp rain, and I took it all in as he deepened the kiss. He ran his hands down my back and grabbed my ass, forcing my body to get as close to his as possible. I moaned into his mouth and I felt his erection grow, pushing against my stomach. I went to reach down and take gentle hold of his shaft but he grabbed my arm and placed it around his neck before lifting me up into the air.

I wrapped my legs around his waist as he pinned me up against the wall and slowly guided his hard cock into me. I let out a sharp gasp as he slipped deeper and deeper inside. I was sore from the night before but the pleasure of it all overwhelmed the pain.

“You alright?” He whispered against my lips as he gripped my thighs.

“Yes.” I whispered back before kissing him hard. I dug at his back as he started to thrust his hips back and forth, slipping in and out of me with ease.

He held me still as he picked up the pace and moved faster, making us both moan in ecstasy.

The more he moved the closer I got to cumming. He was at the perfect angle to where every time he thrusted into me, he rubbed against my G-spot and clit. I started to tremble as he pushed me over the edge, making me cum even harder than before. “Charlie,” I moaned as I felt my insides pulse around his cock over and over again.

“God yes.” He moaned as he felt me cum, resulting in him fucking me harder and harder. It became even easier to slip in and out of me as my cum ran down his dick, “Christ I want to fill you up.” He said, digging into my thighs.

The thought of him cumming almost made me climax a second time, “Please.” I begged,

“I want you to cum..”

In one swift motion he pulled out of me, lowered me to my feet, and finished himself off onto my stomach as he kissed me hard. The sound of him moaning almost made my knees buckle.

We both leaned against the wall as we tried to catch our breath. The water was just now beginning to cool, so I handed him the body wash so we could clean ourselves up.

He shut off the water as I stepped out of the shower and dried off. After tossing him the towel, I pulled on the grey PT sweatpants and tank top he found for me and opened the bathroom door. I jumped as I saw five men in his living room, standing at attention. “Um…Charlie?” I said looking over at him confused, “You have some guests.”

Charlie was wrapping the towel around his waist as he looked up at the men and nodded, “Kate, this is my Alpha Team.” He said as we took a few steps into the living room, “Alpha’s, meet Katherine Fox.” He said in a deep commanding voice, “She is the one you will be protecting, day and night.” Charlie looked over at me “This is the most reliable team I have. They are going to keep you safe, and they are going to find John’s killer.”

The Project

December 3rd, 2015

“Wait, how…” I shook my head, “How do these guys even know about John?” I asked.

“I told them.” Charlie said with a nod.

I slowly walked up to one of them and whispered, “How long have you been standing there?”

“About five minutes, ma’am.” He whispered back with a straight face.

“Did you hear anything?” I asked.

The man just looked down at me and raised a brow.

“That’s just great.” I mumbled and looked at Charlie as he began to speak.

“Kate, I want to introduce you to Timothy Finn, he will be your right hand man.” Charlie said as he patted the man I just whispered to on the shoulder, “He teaches our hand to hand combat class along with our weapon defenses class.”

I gave Tim a small smile and tried to ignore the fact that I could feel my cheeks getting red.

“And this is Kirk Madden, he’s our green beret veteran” Charlie said, moving to the next guy.

“Kirk like the Captain?” I asked the vet.

He looked down at me with a small smile, his green eyes filled with humor, “Yes ma’am, like Captain Kirk.”

I nodded and moved onto the next man to Kirk’s right, “And who is this?” I asked Charlie.

“This is Brandon Mead, he’s our sniper.” Charlie said.

I raised both brows at him, “So you’re good with a gun?” I asked Brandon.

He smirked but kept looking forward, “Yes ma’am, I’m good with a gun.”

“Good to know.” I whispered to myself before I looked at the next guy.

Charlie seemed to be amused by my reactions but he just kept going. “This is Leo Schmidt and Mark Harris.” He said, nodding to the last two men, “They’re the best private investigators we have on site.”

I nodded slowly, looking at all of them as a group and then individually. They were all built lean, as if they train for strength and balance opposed to size and power.

“These men have been through our combat training program, and have worked as a team, with this team, for three years now.” Charlie informed me.

“To do what?” I asked looking over at Charlie.

“Pardon?” Charlie asked.

“Well, you say that they’re combat trained, but… for what? I mean, I thought this was just a self defense camp.” I asked confused.

Charlie took in a deep breath. I watched his chest rise and fall before he spoke, “We… have some assignments that still need tending to.” He explained.

“So you kill people? Like my parents killed people?” I asked with a frown.

“Yes, but this team I put together myself. They, as a team, have nothing to do with this camp, just some of the clientele we use to work with, and some of the training.” He explained.

I looked back over at the five men standing there and tried to understand, “How do you find the time and resources to train so many different types of people?” I asked.

“It’s a long application process with a lot of different types of training.” Charlie said, “It takes a full year to complete everything, unless they have prior training, but we prefer they don’t so we can mold them into what we need them to be. Kirk was our one exception.” He added.

“Huh.” I said taking it all in, “Well its… nice to meet you all.” I said with a nod.

“Boys.” Charlie said and that must have been their cue to leave because they all nodded me a goodbye at the same time and walked out in a line like little ducklings.

“Were we done talking to them?” I asked as I watched them leave.

Charlie nodded, “They have a schedule.” He said shutting the door behind them before he walked to his bedroom, I assumed to get dressed.

“Okay, do you just say that to sound important all the time or do they really have somewhere to be?” I yelled to him but he didn’t respond.

I grabbed a pillow and sunk into the couch, trying to remember the names and details of his team and what they did, but trying to understand everything did nothing but give me a headache.

“I need a drink.” I said to Charlie who had pulled on a pair of sweatpants and was on his way to the kitchen, “You got any whiskey?” I asked him.

“Shouldn’t it be do I have any whiskey?” He asked with a smirk.

I blinked at him, not amused.

He sighed, “I haven’t had a drink in about a year, but I might have something hidden…” He said as he rummaged through his cupboards.

“Why did you stop drinking?” I asked as I watched him search the kitchen.

He shrugged, “I didn’t know how to control it.” He said as he pulled out two pints from the back of the freezer.

“I only need one.” I said as I rested my chin on the pillow I’d been hugging.

He grabbed one glass and one pint and sat it down on the coffee table in front of me, “Take it easy with that stuff.” He ordered before taking a seat on the opposite end of the couch.

I rolled my eyes and poured myself a triple, “This isn’t my first rodeo.” I said to him as I sat back and took a sip.

He waited for a minute to speak, “What’s on your mind?” He finally asked.

“A lot.” I replied before taking another sip.

“You wanna talk about John?” He asked.

I thought about it, “I wanna talk about your girlfriend..” I said, looking over and locking eyes with him.

He let out a deep short laugh, “Is that right?” He asked, raising a brow at me.

I nodded.

“What do you want to know?” He asked.

“How long have you been dating?”

“A while…”

I took a bigger gulp, “Are you in love?” I asked.

“What do you think?”

“I don’t know, that’s why I asked.”

He sighed, “She’s in love with me, yes.”

“And you? Are you in love with her?”

He rubbed the scruff on his jaw, “It’s not that easy.”

“It’s a yes or no question, Charlie.” I argued.

“For me. It’s not that easy, for me.” He shook his head, “She’s a sweet girl, she see’s only good in me, and she does what I ask her to.” He shrugged.

“So, she’s convenient.” I said.

“In a sense.” He nodded.

“Does she train here?” I asked him as I poured myself another glass of whiskey.

“No.” He said.

“So how does she get in?” I asked with a head tilt. I was already starting to feel this alcohol. Did I eat anything today? I wondered.

“Same way you did.” He said reaching over and grabbing my ankle. He pulled me close enough to him so he could pick me up by my ass and lower me onto his lap.

“You almost spilled my drink.” I said looking down at him.

He took the drink out of my hand and set it on the side table to his right, “There.” He whispered, turning his attention back to me.

“You can’t kiss me.” I whispered down at him.

“And why’s that?” He asked, his grip getting tighter on my ass.

“I taste like whiskey.”

He shrugged, “And?”

“And you don’t drink. So when you and I part ways, and you’re laying in bed at night, thinking about me, you’ll take that whiskey and drink every drop just to remember what I taste like.” I said as I ran my finger along his bottom lip, “You’ll drink to remember when most people drink to forget…but honestly, I don’t know what’s more dangerous.” I whispered.

“Not kissing you.” He replied, “That’s more dangerous.” He said as he moved my hand away from his mouth and crashed his lips onto mine.

His kiss was rough and impatient, but grew more passionate as we relaxed against each other. His hands traveled up my back and into my hair as my hands dug at his bare chest and shoulders. I could feel the small scars on his chest but I didn’t want to break our kiss to ask him about them. I didn’t want to break our kiss to even take a breath. His grip on my body became more aggressive the longer we kissed. I could practically feel him holding back the urge to slam me on the ground and have his way with me.

Then there was a buzzing. We both slowly pulled away from each other as we heard a low vibration on the coffee table. We looked at each other and then at the phone buzzing out of control next to my pint of whiskey. Charlie leaned forward and grabbed the phone to see who it was.

“Shit.” He whispered as he checked his phone.

As I moved off his lap, I glanced down and saw he had three missed calls from a woman called Anna. Before I could ask if that was his girlfriend, there was a knock at his door.

Charlie moved quickly, he was at the door getting ready to open it before I had a thought in my head of what to say. I watched as he took in a deep breath before swinging the door open, “What are you doing here?” He asked the dark figure as he blocked the entry way so they couldn’t come in.

I stood up trying to figure out what to say. If this is his girlfriend, she is not going to be pleased with Charlie having another woman in his living room in the middle of the night.

“What do you mean, what am I doing here? I told you yesterday I was coming over tonight to talk.” A woman said pushing past him. As she walked further into the cabin her eyes settled on me and she blinked with a confused look on her face. She was beautiful, tall, dark hair, tan skin, big brown eyes, I was almost jealous. Almost.

“I didn’t know you had company…” The woman said as she took off her coat, “You must be Harmony.”

I laughed at her. Hard. “I better not look like a fucking Harmony…” I blurted out, thanks whiskey.

She blinked at me, “So, you’re not Harmony?” She asked me.

“Please stop saying that awful name.” I begged.

Charlie sighed as he shut the door, “Anna, this is my friend Kate,” He locked the door, “Kate, this is my sister Anna.”

“Sister” I said surprised as I walked over to her and shook her hand, “I didn’t know Charlie had a sister.”

“I didn’t know Charlie had a second woman, so let’s call it even.” Anna said as she dropped my hand.

“Oh were not-” I started.

She threw up her left hand, gesturing me to stop talking “Do I smell whiskey?” She asked as she walked over to the coffee table.

I looked over at Charlie, who was rubbing the scratch marks on his chest as he watched his sister drink from the open pint glass.

“Mmm… this is smooth.” She said.

“Wait so… Who’s Harmony?” I asked them.

Harmony, is Charlie’s girlfriend.” Anna said bitterly.

“And you don’t like this woman?” I asked her curiously.

“I hurt her feelings over the phone once, I don’t know.” She shrugged.

“You bitched her out, Anna.” Charlie said, folding his arms over his chest.

“Who answers the phone at seven in the morning like a god damn Teletubby?!” She yelled.

“She’s a morning person. I told her to grab my phone because I was getting in the shower.” Charlie explained calmly.

“Whatever, Charlie. She sounds like the yellow one.” She mumbled.

I looked over at Anna, “It’s weird you know that.”

She smirked.

“Well, I’m gunna go.” I said with a nod.

Charlie closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, “Anna… give us a minute.” He ordered her, and she surprisingly listened.

Anna waved bye to me and walked into his bedroom, shutting the door behind her.

He looked over at me, dropping his hands to his sides, “You’re not driving.” He said firmly.

“You’re very bossy.” I said walking over to him.

“Yes I am.” He said looking down at me.

I smirked as I ran my hands up his chest and around his neck, “I like it.” I whispered before I got up on my tiptoes and kissed him softly.

“Good girl.” He whispered against my lips as he pulled my body against his, kissing me long and hard.

After a few seconds I broke our kiss and forced myself to take a step back, “I like your sister.” I said as I walked over to the door.

“She’s…something else.” He said with a smirk as he opened the door for me and grabbed a key off the shelf. “The guest cabin is available. Sleep there tonight. You don’t need to be driving, it’s late.” He said handing me the key.

I nodded, walking onto the porch.

“Hey.” He said leaning on the door frame.

I looked back at him as I shoved the key in my pocket.

“You’re gunna be just fine.” He said with a nod.

I smiled, “Thanks.” I said as I walked off his porch and headed to the guest cabin.

The next morning, I woke up to my phone going off an annoying amount of times before I reached over and silenced it. I sat up confused, knowing that I didn’t grab my phone before I left Charlie’s, but then I saw my clothes laying at the end of my bed, clean.

I slowly crawled out of bed and stretched before I got dressed and grabbed my phone, listening to my voicemails. One was from Nancy, wondering if I stopped by the house, and the other was from that detective I talked to the day before. He wanted me to come down to the station as soon as possible.

“Of course.” I sighed as I shoved the phone in my back pocket and walked out of the guest cabin.

I walked over to Charlie’s and knocked twice. Anna answered the door, looking like she had been drinking all night.

“Thank god, I thought you were my father.” She mumbled before she left the door open and walked into the kitchen.

I took a step inside and put the key to the guest cabin back on the shelf, “Is Charlie here?” I asked her as I stood in the doorway.

“No, he left a while ago.” She said pouring herself a glass of what looked like OJ, “Want some?” She asked, holding up the carton so I could see what it was.

“Um…sure” I shrugged, closing the door behind me. “Did Charlie say where he was going?” I asked her as I sat on the couch.

“No, but he never does.” She said walking over to me, handing me my juice.

“If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?” I said before taking a sip.

“I’m 25.” She said sitting in the chair across from me.

“And how old is Charlie?” I asked.

“He’s 29.” She said after taking a big gulp.

I nodded.

“How old are you? 25? 26?” She asked.

I smirked, “23.”

“Bullshit.” She laughed, “You’re the most mature 23-year-old I’ve ever met.”

I shrugged, “Just born with an old soul I suppose. Plus, with my parents dying at a young age, I didn’t really have a choice but to grow up quick.” I explained.

She frowned, “Yea, Charlie told me about that… I’m sorry.”

“He did?” I asked, surprised.

She nodded, “And about your boyfriend. You just have bad luck, girl. Stay the hell away from me.” She laughed softly.

“Yea.” I said with a small laugh, “Did he…say anything else about me?” I asked curiously.

“Listen,” She said leaning forward, “There are a few things you should know about my brother, one of them being, he’s not a relationship kind of guy.” She began, “So when he started dating that bimbo a year ago I was surprised, but after I realized he wasn’t that serious about her I just brushed it off. I mean he’s been dating the girl for a year and I still haven’t met her if that tells you anything.”

“A year…” I said looking down at my drink, “That’s a long time.”

“Yea, well, like I said, I haven’t even met her yet and Charlie and I talk every week so.” She shrugged. “Secondly, Charlie loves projects. That’s all he ever works on. He’s always building something or taking something apart or helping someone.” She explained.

“Are you saying I’m just a project to him?” I asked, setting my drink down on the coffee table.

Anna shrugged, “A broken girl who needs guidance and fixing; it sounds like his M.O.”

I nodded.

“I mean don’t get me wrong, Charlie could be crazy about you and just want to help but… I think he just see’s something that needs to be taken apart and put back together.” She said as she sat back.

“Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.” I said standing up.

“I don’t exactly have a filter so I hope I didn’t come off as a bitch, you seem like a decent girl.” She said.

“No, you’re a bitch.” I said looking down at her, “But you’re an honest bitch.” I smirked.

She laughed.

“Tell Charlie I said bye.” I said walking over to the door.

She nodded, “Will do.”

“Later.” I said as I walked out, closing the door behind me.

“Ms. Fox.” A man said walking up to me. As he got closer I realized it was the security guard from the gate. “I have your keys.” He said, handing them to me with a smile.

“Ah, yes. My keys.” I said looking down at them, “Thanks.” I said as I stepped off the porch.

“I can take you to your car, if you’d like?” He suggested.

I nodded, “Sure. That’d be great.”

“Right this way…” He said as he led me towards the entrance to the camp.

My three-hour drive to the police station went quick. I was nervously tapping on the steering wheel the entire time, repeatedly going over the night John died in my head. I guess I was just hoping to find something new to tell him. I didn’t.

After I parked the car, I jogged up front steps to the police station and heard a woman yell, “Katherine!”

I stopped and looked around. I felt my chest sink into itself as John’s parents walked up to me in tears.

“You did this.” His mother said with a shaky voice as she pointed a long finger at me, “He would still be alive if it wasn’t for you!” She yelled.

“Alice, come on. Not now.” John’s father said as he guided his wife down the stairs, not giving me a second look.

My vision blurred and my chest got heavy. I wanted to puke. I wanted to scream. The reality of it all hit me as I ran into the police stations bathroom and threw up in one of their toilets. I felt guilty and dirty. I sat in that bathroom stall and let go of every emotion I was holding back. John was dead, because of me. He was in my apartment. In my bed. I have been using Charlie as a distraction this whole time because I didn’t want to accept that, but seeing John’s parents hit me like a ton of bricks.

After about twenty minutes of me sobbing on the bathroom floor, I stood up and pulled myself together. I washed my face in the sink and pulled my hair up in a ponytail with shaky hands. “You can do this.” I whispered as I stared at myself in the mirror before walking out of the bathroom.

I didn’t have to wait at the front to see the detective. As soon as I asked for him they took me back to a small dark room with a mirror and fluorescent lighting. I sat behind the shiny metal table they had set up and stared at the empty chair across from me until the detective walked in.

He was a short, fatter man with a crooked tie and glasses. I remember him smelling like bad cologne and cheese. I also remember him being a dick. He sat across from me and took out photos of John’s dead body, hoping to trigger something in me I suppose. Too bad for him that he just missed my pathetic meltdown in the bathroom. He asked me questions that started to piss me off like, “What are your hobbies?” and “Do you have sudden bursts of anger?”

What in the fuck does this guy think he’s going to accomplish?! I thought to myself as I stared at him. He was disgusting and a pathetic excuse for a detective. He didn’t listen to me, and just as I was about to walk out, he said something that caught my attention.

“John’s autopsy shows that he was killed with a 7-inch blade of some sort, you know anything about that? Can you think of any weapon in your apartment that might do that kind of damage?” He asked.

“Why don’t you go see if one of my kitchen knives are missing?” I said with a sarcastic tone but he shook his head.

“Nah, this weapon is thicker than a kitchen knife.” He said as he eyed me up and down.

The daggers, I thought to myself. My parents’ old daggers.

My heart started to race but I kept my cool, “Detective, this was a waste of time. Please have an actual question for me next time you call.” I said standing up. “If I think of anything, I’ll call you, but I’m not saying another word without a lawyer present.” I said looking down at him.

“Am I free to go?” I asked.

“You’re free to go.” He said standing up and opening the door for me.

“If you think of any weapon that might match John’s wounds, you be sure to contact me right away.” He said as I started to walk away from him.

I didn’t stop. I didn’t breathe. I walked out that front door and never looked back.

Never say never

December 10th, 2015

The moment I climbed into my car I started to shake. I thought about having another breakdown. Just taking a few minutes to yell and cry, but then I decided against it. I had my moment, and now I needed to collect my thoughts and come up with a game plan. First on my list, find the set of daggers my folks left me.

As I drove back to the house, I tried to remember if they were still in the weekend bag I took with me to meet Lou the first time, and again when I had to leave after they told me my loft was a crime scene. I didn’t remember taking them out so hopefully they were underneath all of my clothes, or this was going to turn into an even bigger problem.

I parked the car in the garage and ran into the house just as it started to rain again. I wasn’t sure what I was going to find, one dagger? Two daggers? No daggers? My mind was racing as I walked upstairs and into my room. I found the bag on the floor in my closet, and I started to wonder how I got away with packing a bag at all. I mean I’m no detective, but it would seem that everything in my loft was considered part of a crime scene, therefore, I wouldn’t be allowed to take anything.

“Whatever.” I mumbled to myself as I picked up the bag and dumped it out onto my bed. Tossing the clothes onto the floor, the only thing left was two smaller boxes, and one dagger.

“One.” I whispered to myself as I grabbed the dagger and examined the blade. It was thicker than a kitchen knife alright, and a lot heavier too.

I shoved it into my boot before I spent an extra five minutes searching the pile of clothes and empty bag for the missing dagger. “Shit.” I said with a sigh as I fell back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling. I tried to think back to when I found John, hoping I had missed something. I remember shaking him, and then pulling the covers back, and then dropping to the ground as I talked myself out of puking. I didn’t notice any weapon or clue of some sort. Just John.

Coming out of my reverie, I heard a loud thump downstairs that made me sit up with a jolt. When I didn’t hear it again I quietly walked out of my room and down the stairs. The rain was getting heavier, so there were a lot of odd noises going on in each room. I stepped into the dining room just as the lights flickered and went out. It was in the middle of the afternoon so there was a dim blue light shining though the windows from the sky, allowing me to still see where I was going, but barely.

As I made my way into the kitchen to grab a lighter I slipped on something wet. Grabbing the ledge of the counter with a gasp, I caught myself and looked down to see I slipped on a small puddle of water. My first thought was that the roof was leaking, but when I looked further into the kitchen I saw a trail of small puddles leading to the back door.

My heart started to race when I realized I wasn’t alone. Just as I went to turn around and head to the front door, I felt the weight of someone’s right arm reaching over my shoulder to press a dull knife against my throat. I froze as they pulled my body tight against theirs before they spoke, “Didn’t your parents ever teach you to lock your doors?” Said a man with a deep rough voice. I felt his breath run down my neck as he whispered into my left ear, “Didn’t they teach you not to let strangers into your home?”

I closed my eyes, “Yes.” I whispered as I tried to remember the self defense training my folks taught me years ago, “But more importantly, they taught me never to let them leave.” I said with a threatening tone before I took a risky chance and in one swift motion, I reached up with my right hand to squeeze the pressure point on his bicep while I used my left forearm to push his arm down just enough so he couldn’t cut my throat. I stomped as hard as I could on his right foot before I slammed his body back into the fridge hard enough for him to loosen his grip and drop his hold on me.

Once I was out of his reach, I spun around to face him as I brought my hands up into a fighting position, getting ready to throw a punch when I realized who it was.

“Charlie?” I said as I looked him up and down. He had dark face paint on, making his evil grin glow in the dim light. He threw up his hands as if to surrender as he let out a deep chuckle. I dropped my hands.

“Easy, Red.” He laughed, “I think I broke your fridge.”

“What the hell are you doing here!?” I snapped. Looking him over, I now realized why I didn’t recognize him sooner. He was dressed in all black; t shirt, cargo pants, combat boots, the works. Even his hair had some black face paint in it.

“Are you trying to get yourself killed?!” I yelled at him.

“I’m just getting back from a job and I was in the neighborhood. ” He explained, “Killed? That’s cute.” He said reaching out to grab me but I pushed his hand away.

“You’re mad.” He observed with a raised brow.

“No shit I’m mad, Charlie! You scared the hell out of me! How did you even FIND me here?” I asked.

He scratched the back of his neck, “I had the guys put a tracker on your car.” He said standing up straight, “Listen, you need to relax.” He said firmly.

“Relax? Are you fucking joking?” I said taking a step towards him, “Does privacy mean NOTHING to you people?” I yelled.

“No, but your safety does!” He yelled back. “I could have killed you just then, do you realize that?!” He closed the distance between us in one long stride, “I took the dagger out of your boot before I put it to your throat and you didn’t even notice.” He said looking down at me. The more he yelled, the taller and more intimidating he seemed to become.

“I am here to protect you from your own god damn mistakes and you want to get an attitude with me?” He said as he lifted my chin up with his hand so he could look me in the eyes, “You’re lucky I don’t punish you and take what I want right here.” He threatened.

I clenched my jaw and slammed my hands into his hard chest, attempting to push him away but all it did was push me back, “We’re done. You and me, whatever this was, its over.” I said looking up at him, “Get out.” I said firmly.

He dropped his hands and let out a short laugh, “You sure about that, pet?” He asked me.

Giving him a sharp glare seemed to be a good enough answer for him because he dropped the dagger and headed to the back door.

“I’ll remember that.” He said with a nod, “I’ll remember that along with the fact that you can’t keep your hands off of me long enough to think straight.” He said with a harsh tone.

He grabbed the handle to the back door and looked over at me, “You’re angry now, but once that anger dies down, you’re going to be begging me to make you cum again.” He said opening door, “Lock up.” He said as he slammed it shut, leaving me speechless and standing alone in the kitchen.

That whole night I tossed and turned in bed. Every little sound worried me and once the power came back on, not even a night light settled my nerves. I knew Charlie was right, and maybe I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did but I have my fathers hot headed temper.

The next morning, I was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee when there was a heavy knock at my door. Hesitantly, I looked through the window to see one of Charlie’s men standing on my porch. I unlocked the front door and opened it with a frown.

“Good morning, ma’am.” He said standing tall and alert, “It looks like it stormed pretty bad last night. ” He said looking at my front yard and then back at me with a small smile.

“You’re the hand to hand combat guy, right?” I asked making sure I didn’t mistake him for someone else.

He nodded, “Call me Finn, ma’am.”

“Call me Kate.” I said opening up the door wider, “Would you like some coffee, Finn?” I asked.

He seemed surprised by my invitation, “No thank you, ma’am. I’m just here to de-bug your vehicle.”

“Kate, not ma’am, and you’re here to de-bug my car? You mean take the tracker off of it?” I asked as I folded my arms over my chest.

He nodded, “Charlie’s orders.” He said “He also wanted me to tell you to pack your things, I’m taking you back to camp.”

I frowned, not thinking I heard him right, “Excuse me? Why on god’s earth would I-”

“-I think you know why, Kate.” Finn said looking down at me, “You’re not safe here alone and you need to train. We’ll figure out the arrangements when we get there, I just ask that you’re ready to go in an hour.”

I wanted to argue with him but there was no point when he wasn’t the one I needed to argue with. I tossed him my keys and opened the garage door for him before I went upstairs and started to pack.

The thought of seeing Charlie again made my stomach do flips for reasons I didn’t understand. I was nervous, and confused, and still a little angry even though I didn’t exactly have the right to be. I didn’t plan on ever seeing him again, let alone in a few hours. What the hell was I going to say to him?

I thought it over as I took a quick body shower. Deciding I wanted to be comfortable on the ride there, I pulled on a pair of black leggings, along with a black tank top with thick straps. I was just pulling my hair up in a messy ponytail as I heard Finn call my name from downstairs.

“Coming!” I yelled down to him as I grabbed my bag and tennis shoes. I trotted down the stairs to meet Finn and he took my bag to the car while I got my shoes and zip up hoodie on. Locking up the house gave me some mixed emotions, but I ignored them as I climbed into Finn’s Jeep, “Lets go.” I said, relaxing in the passenger seat as we drove out of the subdivision.

The drive seemed shorter than I remembered. Maybe because I was dreading the fact that I had to see Charlie, I don’t know. Finn didn’t say much on our ride there, so that helped me be alone with my thoughts. My awful, awful thoughts.

“Ya know, maybe this isn’t such a good idea.” I said to Finn as we pulled up to the security gate.

“You’ll be just fine, lassie. Just take him with a grain of salt.” He said patting me on the shoulder before he turned his attention to the guard.

I swallowed hard as we pulled through the gate and parked the Jeep in front of the main lodge doors, “He should be in there, I’ll take your things to the guest cabin.” Finn told me.

I thanked him as I climbed out of the car and walked into the lodge. It was quiet except for the popping of the lit fire and Charlie’s footsteps as he walked down the stairs. His eyes were on me as soon as I walked in and they didn’t leave me until I spoke.

“What am I doing here, Charlie?” I asked, folding my arms over my chest.

He walked right up to me so we were toe to toe “You’re here to learn.” He said simply.

I frowned, “Why?” I asked.

“Because I finish what I start.” He said before he pushed past me and walked out of the lodge. He held the door open and looked back at me with a raised brow, “You coming?” He asked with an annoyed tone.

I sighed and followed him out of the lodge, “Are you going to try to kill me again?” I asked, matching his tone.

“No, I put Finn in charge of that.” He said walking down a path behind the cabins that I hadn’t been on before.

“Wait, what?” I asked, having to pick up the pace to keep up with him.

“Finn will teach you everything you need to know about hand to hand combat. You will train with him for three hours, five days a week.” He came to a halt so quickly I almost ran into him, “And then you will come to me each night and show me what you have learned, you understand?” He asked, towering over me.

“So I will be training every day for how long?” I asked.

“As long as it takes.” He said firmly and began walking again, “You will start meditating for one hour every morning, then you will have breakfast.” The path started to lead us into the forest, “After breakfast you will warm up with thirty minutes of cardio, and then you will meet Finn in the gym. After you train with Finn, you will have an hour of personal time, and then you will meet our sniper here for target practice.” He said as we walked up on another open field. There were five targets set up in a row to our right. To our left and down a ways was the weapons shed.

“You will be training one on one with these men, so be sure not to waste their time.” Charlie said looking over at me.

I didn’t make eye contact with him, “What do I do after target practice?” I asked, my eyes settling on the targets.

“You meet me at my cabin and show me what you can do.” He said. “At first you’re going to be sore, and tired, and weak. You’ll barely be able to hold up your fists or take off your shoes, you will hate me and everything to do with this camp, until you start to get good. You’ll start to show improvement after a few weeks, after a few months you’ll start to feel good about yourself, and before long you might even be able to take me down.” He said with a small grin.

I finally looked over, locking eyes with him as he spoke.

“Eventually practicing with me every night will be nothing but foreplay to you and you’ll want more.” He explained.

“How much more?” I asked him curiously.

He grinned, “After I show you what your body is capable of, you’ll be addicted to pushing the limits. You’ll challenge everyone here and when that’s not enough, I’ll take you out on the town and show you what were capable of as a team.”

“Is that why I’m here? You want me to join your team?” I asked him with a head tilt.

I watched him think about his answer carefully before he spoke, “Do you think you’re capable of taking someone’s life?” He asked me.

I shrugged, “I don’t know, I was pretty set on killing you last night.”

“But you didn’t, and that’s why you’re here. One thing at a time, princess.” He said as he headed back towards the camp.

“Didn’t? Princess?” I said, waiting there for a second thinking he had some sort of comeback, but when he just ignored me and kept walking, he pissed me off even more.

I huffed a growl under my breath as I followed him out of the woods and back into the housing community. He walked to the guest cabin and unlocked the door before he walked inside. I followed him, eager to finish this conversation.

“Lets get two things straight.” I said slamming the door shut, “You will never call me princess again.” I said walking up to him, he was now leaning on the dresser with his arms crossed over his chest, watching me, “And I could have killed you last night if I wanted to.” I said firmly.

Charlie laughed a deep laugh, making his chest rise and fall until he had something to say, “Is that so?” He asked with a smirk, “You really think that?”

“How’s your foot?” I snapped.

“How’s your neck?” He replied, his smile slowly fading.

“You have no idea what I’m capable of.” I argued as I took a step closer to him.

Charlie stood up straight before he leaped forward and tackled me to the ground. I hit the floor hard, knocking the breath right out of me. He had me pinned beneath him, holding down my arms and sitting on my legs so I couldn’t move.

“One of the many problems you have, Katherine, is fighting out of anger. That’s your first mistake.” He said as his grip got tighter on me.

I blinked up at him, trying to control a steady breathing pattern as he held me there, forcing me to listen to him.

“Your second mistake is not being prepared at all times. You think because mommy and daddy trained you when you were a kid, that you know everything now, but you don’t. You’re a small woman with a big ego and you need to shut it down or your going to get yourself killed.” He said releasing my hands from his grip.

“You could have just knocked me out and saved yourself the speech, you’ve made your point now get the hell off of me.” I said as I tried to sit up.

“There’s that ego again.” He said pushing me back down, “What am I going to do with you?” He said looking down at me.

“If your going to stay on top of me all day, at least make yourself useful.” I whispered as I looked up at him.

Charlie raised a curious brow at me, “What exactly did you have in mind?” He asked.

I bit my lip as I thought about my next move. I didn’t realize how turned on I was until I felt the weight of him on top of me, holding me down. I slowly reached up and grabbed him by the shirt, pulling him down to me as I sat up and crashed my lips onto his. Our kiss seemed to intensify as we tasted one another, roughly massaging our tongue’s together as we grew more passionate and hungry.

He stood us both up without breaking our kiss and backed me up into a wall, his hands eagerly grabbing at my ass and hips before he yanked down my leggings. I went to unbutton his pants but he grabbed my hands and pinned them above my head as his free hand pulled my panties to the side.

“Is this what you want?” He whispered against my lips as I felt one finger lightly run along my wet slit, teasing me.

I gasped at his gentle touch and let out a whimper, “Yes. Please.” I begged softly.

I felt him slip one finger inside of me, and then another as he used his thumb to rub my clit gently, driving me crazy.

I couldn’t even try to suppress my moans as he slipped his fingers in and out of me. All I wanted to do was rip his clothes off and ride him until he filled me with his cum but he wouldn’t let go of my fucking hands.

“Charlie” I moaned, “Please let me go so I can fuck you.”

“Mmm…” He moaned in my ear, “You remember when I said you’re going to be begging me to make you cum again?”

“Yes” I whispered.

“You will always come back to me, and as long as you’re a good girl, I will always make you cum.” He whispered in my ear as he slipped a third finger inside of me, making me gasp, “But you’ve really been testing your boundaries with me, haven’t you?”

I bit my bottom lip as I nodded slowly.

“And you really pissed me off last night trying to tell me we were finished.” He whispered as he slowly pulled his fingers out of me, “Which means I’m going to leave you here, worked up and alone.” He said standing up straight and releasing my hands, “And you are going to think about what the fuck you want, because if its me, you’re going about it the wrong way. Do you understand me?”

“Yes.” I breathed, dropping my hands to my sides.

“Good.” He said as he headed to the door, “Be ready at 7am tomorrow. Don’t be late.” He said over his shoulder before he opened the door and walked out.

Blue Eyes and Africa

December 18th, 2015

Meditation wasn’t a thing that came natural to me. Taking a fifteen-minute hike through the forest to get to the place where I’m suppose to sit still for an hour also wasn’t something that came natural to me at seven o’clock in the morning.

Finn was the one who lead me to the large meditation temple that sat back even further into the forest. It was two stories high with glass walls and stone pillars. As Finn gave me the tour of the first floor, he explained to me how it was important to be at peace with yourself, and how meditating helps you concentrate and gives you a deeper understanding of not only your inner self but our life’s purpose as well.

Considering I had never meditated or practiced yoga in my life, I didn’t really understand the peaceful mindset of it all. Finn handed me a mat to sit on and gave me a few tips on how to breathe and how to silence the mind. He told me he’d be back in an hour to check on me before he walked upstairs, leaving me alone in this large glass room with just my mat and my thoughts.

As I laid my mat down on the smooth wooden floor, I couldn’t believe Charlie had me doing something like this. I’ve always been restless and anxious and that was WITH my eyes open! Now I had to sit in the middle of an empty room, close my eyes, and try to connect to my inner self. Whatever the hell that meant.

I sat in the middle of the room facing the east. In front of me was a gorgeous view of the forest. Just rows and rows of tall trees that towered over the temple the way Charlie towered over me time and time again. I sighed as I closed my eyes, attempting to concentrate on myself. I tried to just sit there and breathe and relax and get lost in this magical transcendence that everyone talks about but my mind wasn’t having it. I started to think about last night and how angry I was when Charlie left the way he did. I thought about how I have love/hate feelings with the way he orders me around. Then my thoughts wandered to his hands. His rough aggressive hands, expertly roaming my body and always leaving me desperate for more.

I felt my heart rate pick up and my chest get warm as I let myself get lost in every sexual moment Charlie and I shared. I thought back to the first time we had sex; The way his hips slammed against my ass as he thrusted himself in and out of me with ease. I bit my bottom lip as I could practically feel his breath against my ear as he claimed me as his. Then my thoughts jumped to the shower we shared and the way he took control; Pinning me against the hot shower wall as he lifted me up onto his hard cock and slid into me without hesitation.

If day dreaming about a man is in the category of meditation, then I was headed in the right direction. I’m pretty sure I was doing it completely wrong but at least I was enjoying myself. I mean, who is completely okay with being alone with their thoughts for an entire hour anyway, lets be honest.

With a sigh I opened my eyes and stared out at the forest in front of me. There was this acrylic glass separating It from I but, it was so peaceful out here that I felt more connected to nature now than I ever have before. I was comfortable. Content. Relaxed. Until I closed my eyes.

With the thought of Charlie being too much for me I decided to not think at all. Or attempt to not think. Only, that lead my mind to darker places; Finding John dead, seeing his parents outside of the police station, the detective and his never ending questions, the missing dagger. I found myself hyperventilating in a place I was so content with just seconds ago. I couldn’t hold a breath long enough to satisfy me before I gasped for another over and over again. Opening my eyes, my vision blurred with tears as my chest became hot and my nose started to run.

I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I started to sob quietly into my hands as I rocked back and forth on the mat, letting everything out for the second time. I didn’t know what I was going to do. I didn’t have a handle on anything in my life and I felt like it was all crashing down on me at once.

A little while later after my sobs turned into just sniffles, I felt a hand on my shoulder, making me jump in surprise.

Finn was sitting next to me, rubbing my back and shoulder as he handed me a tissue. I gladly took it and cleaned off my face as we sat there in silence.

A few minutes went by before he spoke, “I’m gunna take you back to the cabin and you’re going to sleep this off. I’ll tell Charlie you’re taking a personal day.” He said softly.

“I can’t take a personal day off when it’s my first day of training, Finn. Charlie will freak.” I argued with a sniffle.

“Charlie will understand.” He reassured me, “He has to leave this afternoon anyway so he won’t even be here. Just take today to relax and we’ll start again tomorrow. I need your full attention to train and you obviously have a lot on your mind right now.” He said as he stood up and pulled me to my feet.

“Thanks, Finn.” I said softly as I rolled up my mat.

Finn nodded, “Not a problem, miss.” He said as he waited for me to put my mat away.

The walk back to the cabin was silent but peaceful. Neither Finn nor I said a word until we made it back to the housing community. I thanked him again for everything and he responded with a nod and told me he would have Anna check on me later this afternoon.

I walked back to my cabin and collapsed on the bed, not caring to set an alarm, or check my phone. I just closed my eyes and slipped into a deep sleep.

I slept all day and part of the night. The only reason I woke up was because I heard Anna whispering in my face, “Wakey wakey, Sleeping Beauty.” over and over again until I opened my eyes.

“What?” I mumbled as I tried to pull the covers over my head but she yanked them off of me.

“Get up sugar, were going out!” Anna said turning on the light.

“Oh my god.” I whispered as I slowly sat up, “How long was I out?” I asked her.

Anna shrugged and looked at her phone, “It’s seven o’clock, you do the math.” She said as she unzipped the black bag she had sitting on my bed.

“Holy shit.” I mumbled as I rubbed my eyes. “What are you doing?” I asked, watching her.

“I’m going to do your makeup, you’re going to put on a sexy outfit, and we’re going to go dancing!” Anna said with a big dramatic smile.

“That’s a terrible idea.” I mumbled.

“When I asked Finn where you were, he told me you had a rough day and I’m here to make it better so get the fuck out of bed and let’s have some fun!” She said pulling me to my feet.

“But-” I started.

“Don’t. Don’t protest because you’ll just waste your time. Now come with me and let me work my magic.” She said firmly.

With a sigh I did as she asked and followed her into the bathroom. She had me sit on side of the tub as she tested out a few different eye shadow colors on me. She settled with a classic smoky eye look before she went to my closet to find me an outfit.

Dark eye shadow wasn’t something I was use to, but it looked sexy and I wasn’t about to hurt Anna’s feelings and wipe it off. While she searched in my closet, I decided to take the time and put a few loose curls in my hair with the curling iron.

She found me some dark skinny jeans and a black t-shirt that was short enough to expose some of my flat stomach, “Simple and sexy. I like it.” She said with a grin.

I found my favorite black heels and slipped them on as she packed up her things and put them in her car.

“Here, eat these on the way.” She said, handing me crackers as I locked up the cabin. “You haven’t eaten all day, and I can’t have you white girl wasted after the first drink.” She said with a small laugh.

“Alright, alright.” I said climbing into the car and opening up the cracker package. “Where are we going?” I asked her as she slid into the driver’s seat.

“You’ll see.” She said with a grin and started to drive.

Anna took me about an hour outside of camp to this college town in the middle of nowhere. Just before we arrived downtown, I saw a sign that said “Welcome to the town of LaJeunesse”. It was a smaller but wealthy town with little shops down the strip and a restaurant at every corner. There were people laughing and drinking everywhere we looked, and for the first time in a while I felt myself get excited.

“How is this in the middle of nowhere? I feel like this should be a ghost town.” I said to Anna as I gawked at all of the people.

“The college is what keeps this place alive. It’s ten minutes away from here and every weekend the students, and professors, and locals all come downtown to relax and socialize. It’s a hidden gem, and they like to keep it that way.” Anna said as she parked the car.

“Everyone is nice here. Its like they’ve created their own little world where everyone is happy and nothing goes wrong. Every time I come down here, I can’t decide if I’m in Pleasantville or Canada.” She laughed, “Either way, it’s a great way to escape from Camp X.” She said as she climbed out of the car.

“Camp X. ” I repeated climbing out of the car and shutting the door, “Wasn’t that some super secret spy training school during World War Two?” I asked as we met behind the car.

Anna smirked, “Yes, Kate. I was kidding.” She laughed, “You’ve been hanging around my brother too much; you’ve lost your sense of humor.”

“I…am not even going to argue that.” I sighed and followed her out of the parking lot. “Where are we going?” I asked as we turned the corner and found ourselves on the main strip, surrounded by people of all ages offering us shots and weed.

“How can they have alcohol outside?” I yelled to Anna, “Isn’t that against some law? Couldn’t they stumble out into the street and get hit by a car?” I asked her.

Anna stopped and spun around to face me, “Katherine Fox I swear to every god out there, if you do not lighten up I’m going to hurt you!” She said as she shook me by the shoulders, “I’m going to get a few drinks in you and we are going to have a good time! Do you know what a good time is?” She asked.

“Yes..” I said with a frown.

“Yes what?!” She asked.

“Yes ma’am?”

“No-” She laughed, “Just come on.” She said taking my hand and leading me to a night club a few blocks away.

From the outside it looked small but once we stepped in, I felt like I was in Mary Poppin’s purse. It just kept going and going. There was a large dance floor in the middle of the club, packed with people dancing to decent music. Beyond that was the DJ, and beyond that was a large spiral staircase leading to the second floor. I looked up and was in awe as I saw these large strands of silky fabric hanging from the ceiling, holding up these women performers as they twirled through the air.

“The brunette right there,” Anna said, pointing up to one of the women twirling in the air, “That’s my girlfriend.” She said in my ear.

I blinked at Anna, “Your girlfriend?” I asked surprised, “You…You’re gay?” I asked with a raised brow.

Anna smiled, “You think I would date a man after dealing with Charlie my whole life?! No thank you. ” She said shaking her head, “I’ll introduce you to her later, lets go get a drink.” She said pulling me by the hand to the bar.

There were a few seats available so we snagged them and ordered two martinis before we sat back and scanned the crowd.

“So…” I said looking over at Anna, “How long have you two been dating?” I asked her with a smirk.

“Three years.” Anna replied with a big smile. “We met here, actually. She was a bartender at the time and I was a student.” She said before taking a sip of her drink.

“Does Charlie know?” I asked curiously.

She nodded, “Yea, he hasn’t said much about it through the years, they’ve met before and he was decent enough.” She shrugged, “I don’t bring her around the family much though… there’s really no point. Her and I have a life here and were both very happy with it.”

“Oh so you live here?” I asked her.

“Yup! We have a loft above one of the coffee shops downtown, it’s pricey but we manage.” She said looking up at her girlfriend, “If we get too trashed tonight we can just stay there and head back in the morning.”

“Charlie would kill me.” I laughed and took a big gulp of my drink, “Sounds perfect.” I smiled.

Anna laughed, “Just because Charlie is helping you doesn’t mean you have to obey his every command. I learned that the hard way. Just try not to think about him tonight and have a good time, you deserve it.” Anna said standing up, “I need to go to the ladies room, I expect that drink to be gone by the time I get back!”

“You’re a very bossy lesbian.” I said with a wink.

Anna laughed and disappeared into the crowd with her drink in her hand.

A few minutes had passed before I said “Fuck it.” and slammed my martini. It felt good to let loose and not worry about my next move for a minute. I decided I wanted this feeling to last so I leaned over the bar and ordered another martini. As I sat up straight I went to sit back down on my stool but I must have misjudged the distance and missed the stool completely. With a gasp I started to fall backwards, plotting my death as I did so to avoid any looks that would embarrass me in the future, but my back hit a hard chest and I felt these big strong arms wrap around me as I was guided to a safe standing position.

“You alright, love?” Said the man who caught me as he slowly pulled away.

I didn’t want to look up, I was already embarrassed but I had to thank this guy for saving me from even more embarrassment.

“God, yes, I’m so sorry.” I laughed as I shook my head. Biting my lip I guided my eyes up to the face of the man who caught me, and was in awe for the second time that night. I felt my cheeks get warm as I stared up at this gorgeous man. Thick blonde hair, blue eyes, tan skin, strong jaw, full lips, very nice smile. Something about him made me want to ask if we’ve met before, but I just let it go and kept staring.

Him and I seemed to look at each other for a good ten seconds before one of us spoke again.

“You gotta be careful, you get off your stool for even a second and someone runs with it.” He said with a laugh.

I looked down as soon as he said something and realized someone took the two stools Anna and I were using. “Noted.” I said with an embarrassed laugh. “Um, thank you, for.. not letting me fall to the ground and make a fool out of myself.”

“It was my pleasure.” He said with a nod as the bartender set down my martini. “I’ll take a scotch on the rocks, and put this young ladies drink on my tab.” He told the bartender.

“Oh no, you don’t have to do that. ” I said shaking my head.

“You look like you could use a drink, it’s the least I can do.” He said.

I frowned, “Are you saying I look as bad as I feel?”

“No, fuck, you look…” He took a second to look me up and down a few times before he leaned in closer to me, “You look absolutely marvelous.” He laughed, “It just seems like you’ve had a long week is all.” He shrugged, “I could be wrong but, I’m usually good at these things.” He smirked.

“You’re good at picking out the weakest of the herd and taking them home?” I asked with a raised brow.

“Are you saying you’re weak?” He asked.

“No.” I said firmly.

“Are you saying you want to come home with me?” He asked.

“No.” I repeated.

“Alright then, I think you answered your own question.” He said with a smirk before he tipped the bartender and grabbed his drink, “It was nice meeting you…?” He paused for a name.

“Kate.” I said.

“Liam.” He said taking my hand and bringing it to his lips. He kissed my hand softly as we kept eye contact, intensifying the feeling of his lips against my hand and giving me the chills.

“Maybe I’ll find you on the dance floor later.” He said as he released my hand.

I smirked, “Maybe.”

“Looking forward to it.” Liam said before he turned around and made his way though the crowd. As I watched him walk away I noticed his build was similar to Charlie’s. Tall, big arms, thick chest, lean torso. He was wearing a fitted white button up shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, and a few buttons undone at the top so he looked more casual. His jeans were dark and simple, giving him the casual but classy look about him.

I lost sight of him just as Anna walked up to me with her empty glass. “The line was ridiculous; I hope you don’t have to pee anytime soon.” She said as she set her glass down on the bar, “Where did our seats go?” She asked with a frown.

I finally looked away from the crowd and turned my attention towards her “I…um…Lost them” I shrugged, “Sorry.”

“You apologize too much; you know that?” She said before she ordered herself another drink.

I took a sip of my fresh drink and looked up at the second level, “What’s up there?” I asked Anna.

“That’s more of the lounge area. There are couches and private rooms and games and another bar, follow me I’ll show you.” Anna said as she grabbed her fresh martini and headed for the spiral staircase. I grabbed my drink and followed her, pushing through the crowd until we reached the stairs.

As soon as we stepped foot on the second floor I immediately felt more relaxed. It was less crowded and more laid back. People having conversations while they snacked on some appetizers, people lounging on the couches, the vibe was completely different.

Anna lead me to a high-top table that we stood at while she explained to me how the levels were separated by age and occupation. “Usually this is where the professionals come to sit and have a drink while the students act out their crazy on the dance floor. Its not too loud up here so people can actually have conversations without sitting in each others laps.” She laughed “I actually see an old professor of mine, I’m gunna go say hi really fast, you wanna come with?” She asked.

“Oh no, I’ll stay here and people watch.” I smirked.

“I’ll be right back.” She said and headed over to the bar.

As I sipped my martini, I casually scanned the room for Liam. I didn’t see anything wrong with distracting myself with a beautiful man and vodka. Frankly, I should have been doing this a few days ago instead of throwing myself at Charlie every chance I got. I shook my head, disgusted with myself by the way I’ve been behaving with him.

“How’s your aim?” Liam asked as he appeared next to me, bringing me back to reality.

Secretly happy to see him, I held back a grin. “Excuse me?” I asked looking up at him.

Liam set his drink down on the table and leaned in closer to me, he smelled like soap and cologne, “I’m looking for someone to play darts with, but I can’t have you be amazing and make me look bad.” He laughed.

“I’m decent enough.” I grinned.

“So you’re in?” He asked.

I nodded, “Sure, let me just tell my friend where I’ll be and I’ll meet you at the dart board.”

He flashed me a white grin, “Deal.” He said as he grabbed his drink. I watched him walk into the back room labeled ‘Game Room’ before I walked over to Anna and let her know where I was going.

I stopped in the bathroom to get a quick look at myself, checking my hair and make up. My cheeks were a little flushed but nothing I couldn’t work with. My loose curls held up nicely, and my eye makeup wasn’t smudged which was a miracle considering I never wear makeup. I looked good, really good. Maybe the martini was giving me all the confidence but I didn’t care. I walked out of the bathroom and into the game room, searching for Liam. He was standing in the back right corner with two drinks in his hands, patiently waiting for me.

As I walked up to him I slowly looked him up and down, admiring his beauty as he stood there in the dim light.

“Seen enough?” He asked with a grin, making it obvious that he caught me checking him out.

“For now.” I grinned back.

He handed me a fresh martini and five darts, “Maybe you’ll get to see more of me if you win.” He said.

“What makes you think I want to see more of you?” I asked looking up at him.

“Your eyes give you away.” He said before putting his lips to the rim of his glass and taking a drink.

“Hmm, I’ll have to work on that.” I said as I set my drink down on the table next to us.

“Ladies first.” He said stepping behind me.

“So, Liam, what do you do for a living?” I asked as I threw a dart, hitting right under the bull’s-eye.

“I own a contracting business in the city.” He said, I could feel him watching me as I threw another dart. “I just got back from Africa, actually. I took my crew over there to build a school.” He explained.

I turned around to face him, “You took your crew to Africa to build a school?” I laughed, “I think that’s the corniest line I’ve ever heard.”

Liam shook his head, clearly amused, “Its not a line.” He said grabbing his wallet and pulling out a folded picture of him and five little African kids in front of the finished school, “We were over there for three months, why do you think I’m so tan?” He laughed.

I looked at the picture closely and then up at him, “Holy shit.. you’re an actual decent person. I didn’t think your kind existed.” I joked as I watched him put the photo away. “When did you get back?” I asked him.

“Four days ago. I have some work here to take care of, then I’ll probably head back at the beginning of the year.” He said looking down at me.

“Well, good for you.” I smiled and turned back to the dart board, trying to focus.

“What about you? What do you do?” He asked.

“I’m a writer.” I said as I threw my last one, grouping them all near the bull’s-eye.

“And how does a writer find herself all the way out here?” He asked leaning against the wall.

“Unfortunate events.” I said looking over at him.

“I’m sorry to hear that.” He said and looked over at the board, “Not too bad… you keep this up and you might win.” He said walking over to the dart board and pulling out the darts.

“So what do I get if I win?” I flirted.

He looked back at me with a grin, “What do you want?” He asked walking towards me.

I bit my lip and thought about what to say next, “A kiss.” I smirked, “From you. A good one. Not some innocent little peck on the cheek. I want to taste you.” I said looking up at him as he reached me. I had no idea when I became so forward, but I liked it.

“Well now I might just lose on purpose.” He whispered as he looked down at me. “Or I can forfeit right now and save us some time.” He whispered before he leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. I felt his arms wrap around me and pick me up as he deepened the kiss. I opened my mouth and eagerly massaged my tongue against his as he sat me on the bar stool and ran his hands through my hair.

“Is that what you were looking for?” He whispered to me as he pulled away just long enough to get out a sentence. He kissed me again, harder this time with more passion. He ran his hand from my hair, down my neck, and to my breast. He would softly massage my aching breast just enough to tease me, then he would run his hand back up my chest and neck.

I let out a soft moan as he teased me, wanting to take this further, “We should take this somewhere more private.” I whispered between kisses as I reached out and pulled him closer to me by his belt.

“I agree.” He whispered as he looked up and scanned the room. The game room was now empty but I could tell what he was thinking, “I’ll go see if there are any private rooms available, don’t go anywhere.” He whispered before kissing me one last time and walking out of the room.

I bit my lip in excitement as I waited for him to come back. I took a glance at my phone and saw I had two missed calls from Anna. Confused at why she would call me, I walked out of the game room and to the bar area where I saw her last. She was standing there texting someone when I approached her, “Anna, what’s wrong? I have two missed calls from you.”

“We have to leave.” Anna said in a worried tone.

I frowned, “What’s going on?” I asked.

“Lou had a heart attack, he’s in a stable condition now but… we have to get back, now.” She said taking my hand.

“Okay just let me say bye to someone first.” I said pulling away from her and ignoring her protests. I walked back into the game room only to find it empty. I sighed and searched the second floor for any signs of Liam but he was nowhere to be found. I wanted to at least let him know why I was leaving but Anna kept pulling me towards the staircase. Eventually I gave up and followed her out of the club, a little dizzy.

“Are you okay to drive?” I asked her as we walked to the car.

“Yea I only had a few.” She said as she unlocked the car and climbed in.

I climbed into the passenger seat with a sigh, I was more drunk than I thought.. three martinis on an empty stomach will do that. I sat back and closed my eyes the entire ride there. I brought up Lou a few times but Anna didn’t sound like she was in the mood to talk, so I stayed silent until we arrived back at camp.

Anna told me to go get some rest, that she was going to go see Lou at the hospital in the morning if I wanted to join her. I told her to let me know if she needed anything before I headed to my cabin. I drank some water, washed my face, and took some Tylenol before I crawled into bed. I laid there thinking about Liam, wondering if I would ever see him again. Maybe Anna’s girlfriend knew who he was if he was a regular at the club. Maybe not. Maybe I’ll never see him again. Either way, I closed my eyes and let the room spin me into a deep sleep. That night I dreamt of blue eyes and Africa.

The next morning, I woke up with a small headache and a dry mouth. I sat up and took more Tylenol as I downed a bottle of water and tried to pull myself together. My body was sore and heavy and all I wanted to do was sleep but I checked the clock and it was six in the morning. I needed to shower before I started my day, so I zombie walked into the bathroom and took a thirty-minute shower to wake me up.

Like clockwork, there was a knock on my door at exactly seven AM. I just finished blow drying my hair and put it in a pony when I heard the knock. I walked to the door and opened it with a small smile. Finn was standing there with his hands shoved in his pockets, “Good morning, Kate.” He said.

“Hey Finn.” I said looking at him a little longer than I usually do. There was something about him that looked…different, or familiar, I couldn’t figure it out but I finally blinked and looked away.

“We heading to meditation this morning?” I asked as I shut the door behind me.

He nodded, “We are. You think you’re up for it today? I’m not going to make you do something that you’re not comfortable with. I know yesterday morning was hard on you.”

“No, its fine. I’ll be fine. I have to face this stuff sometime, right?” I said, walking off the porch.

He nodded, “That’s right.” He said as he walked next to me, “Charlie will be joining us this morning, along with my brother and the rest of the trainee’s. We all need some peace after what happened with Lou last night.”

“How is Lou?” I asked him as we headed into the forest.

“It’s not looking too good to be honest with you, he’s been stable since last night but I think his age is just starting to catch up with him.” He said

“How did it happen? Did you see anything?” I asked curiously.

“I heard him and Charlie arguing and then a few minutes later we were transferring him to the nearest hospital. Charlie was with him all night but Anna got there this morning and told him to go get some rest.” He explained.

“I thought Charlie left early yesterday?” I asked.

Finn nodded, “Charlie was on his way out when Lou wanted to talk to him about something. They sat in the lodge for a few hours talking before it happened.” He scratched the back of his head, “Anyway, try not to mention anything to Charlie about it, he seems to be doing fine now but… I’m not sure what’s going to happen.”

I nodded, “I won’t say anything, thanks for keeping me in the loop.” I said with a small smile.

We stayed quiet the rest of the walk. It was obvious we both had a lot on our minds, so we just stayed silent until we reached the temple.

There was a small group of people standing outside the temple doors when we arrived, talking quietly amongst themselves. I watched as a man broke away from the crowd and headed our way. As he got closer I realized it was Charlie.

“Hey…” I said looking up at him.

“Good morning.” He said touching my shoulder then shaking Finn’s hand. “There’s a few people I want you to meet.” Charlie said to me as he took my hand and lead me to the four people he was talking to before.

“Kate, this is a few of our recruits registered with us this year. This is Tom, Adam, Samantha, and Shane.” He said introducing me to them. They greeted me with a smile and a nod and I did the same. “Everyone, this is Katherine Fox.” He said and turned to Finn, “Where’s your brother?” He asked him.

“He said he was looking over some plans for the new build and he’d be here but that was an hour ago… he should be here by now.” Finn said to Charlie.

“New build?” I asked.

“Finn’s brother is building an addition to our lodge, our community is growing and we need it larger.” Charlie explained.

“Oh.” I whispered as I stared at Finn, slowly figuring out why he looked so familiar to me before, “What’s your brothers name?” I asked him nervously.

“Liam.” Finn said.

I closed my eyes, “Of course it is.” I mumbled.

“Here he is now.” I heard Finn say. Spiking my interest, I opened my eyes and followed his gaze to the man approaching us.

Blonde hair, blue eyes, tall, handsome hunk. That was Liam, alright.

I felt my chest sink into itself as Liam locked eyes with me, and I watched as his reaction changed from happy to confused as he realized who I was.

I sighed, “Here we go.”

December 30th, 2015

His eyes never left me. I could see him trying to figure out how the woman from last night connected with the woman standing before him as he slowly approached us. He finally looked away once Charlie put a hand on his shoulder and brought him in for a hug.

“It’s been too long, brother.” Charlie said as he patted Liam’s back.

“Yes it has.” Liam said as he watched Charlie take a step back and put an arm around me. “And who is this?” Liam said, looking down at me.

“This is Katherine Fox. She’s the Alpha Teams newest assignment.” Charlie said looking from me to Liam.

“Kate.” I said, taking a step out of Charlie’s reach as I held out a hand to Liam.

“Liam.” He said as he took my hand and brought it to his lips, giving me flashbacks of last night. “So you’re the one they’re protecting.” He said, lowering my hand but not letting go.

I frowned and looked over at Finn, “You told him?” I asked.

Finn shook his head in defense, “No, I didn’t say anything.”

Charlie spoke up, “I contacted Liam a few days ago, asking if he wanted to be a member of the Alpha Team like old times.”

“Old times?” I asked, pulling my hand back as I looked at Liam.

“I’m retired.” Liam said firmly, looking over at Charlie.

“Retired?” I repeated quietly.

Charlie let out a deep laugh that made me jump a little, “C’mon Liam…You know you miss it, don’t lie to me.”

Liam shook his head, “I have a good thing going now.” He said as he folded his arms over his chest.

“Yea, well, you stick around long enough and you might find a reason to stay.” Charlie said with a grin before he looked back at the temple.

On that note, Liam looked down at me and raised a brow, “Maybe.” He said softly before looking over at Finn, “Come on, brother.” He said as he walked towards the temple with Finn.

Charlie looked back at me, “You coming?” He asked.

I nodded slowly, “Yea.” I whispered before following them through the glass doors.

The hour that I was suppose to be meditating went by slow. Finn sat to my left and silently tried to give me tips on how to relax, but with Charlie in front of me and Liam to my right, relaxing was the last thing on my mind. I was terrified Liam was going to give me up in some way, but after a few minutes of thinking about it, I decided if he was going to give me up he would have done it already.

I counted the minutes as they drug by, I couldn’t sit still. When I wasn’t looking at the clock, I was stealing glances over at Liam; He was sitting there peacefully in a whole other world. I checked the clock again, I had ten more minutes to either sit there and fidget or I could sneak out and get some air.

I decided to sneak out.

“Oh my god.” I whispered to myself as I stepped outside. How am I ever going to survive this? I had enough problems going on in my life, how could it possibly get more complicated?

“Kate.” Someone behind me whispered.

I turned and saw Liam slowly walking up to me, more relaxed than before.

“Liam, hey.” I said softly.

He waited until we were toe to toe to speak again, “You want to tell me what’s going on? Or should I take a guess?” He asked looking down at me, his deep blue eyes searching me for answers.

“There’s a lot going on, Liam, you’re going to have to be more specific. Also! You’re retired?” I asked, raising a brow.

Liam sighed, “Yes, I’m retired. We’ll circle back to that. What’s going on between you and Charlie?” He asked.

“That’s way too complicated to get into right now-” I started but Liam cut me off.

“-Then what’s going on between you and me?” He asked with an impatient tone.

“You and me? Nothing! Jesus, we kissed. That’s it. I had to leave after that, I never thought I would see you again.” I said with a shrug.

“Is that what you do in your spare time? Lead random guys on and then get scared and bail last minute?” He asked, trying to push my buttons.

It was working.

“Scared?” I let out a light laugh, “Please, I was anything but scared. Don’t be ridiculous.”

“So you intended on going through with it?” He asked with a raised brow.

“With last night? Well I wasn’t going to chicken out if that’s what you’re implying.” I argued.

Liam looked down at me with a cocky smirk that I wanted to smack off his face a little bit, “So it wasn’t just a kiss then.” He said in a ‘matter of fact’ tone.

“Oh my god… are you, thirteen?” I said as I turned my back to him, heading into the woods.

“Tell me I’m wrong then.” He said following me at a slow pace.

“I don’t have to tell you anything.” I said over my shoulder to him as I kept walking.

I heard him laugh, “You can’t even say it, can you? If you admit that you were scared then you look weak, and if you admit that you would have let me fuck you senseless, then that would mean you’d be admitting to actually wanting me, and that’s the last thing you want to do, isn’t it?” He said, catching up to me.

I stopped walking and looked back at him, “What do you want, Liam?” I asked.

He was close to me now, I had to look up to make eye contact with him.

“I want a rematch.” He said firmly.

“A what?” I asked annoyed.

“A rematch.” He repeated, “You, me, and the dart board. Tonight at eight.”

“Is this some rivalry thing between you and Charlie? See who wins the girl over?” I asked, resting my hands on my hips.

He shrugged, “Maybe.” He said, “Only, Charlie doesn’t know about our little meet cute last night, does he?” He asked me with a head tilt.

“Did you just say meet cute?” I asked, biting my lip to keep myself from smiling.

“Don’t change the subject.” Liam said as he took his thumb and ran it across my bottom lip. He lightly pulled my jaw down just enough to release my bottom lip from its hold before he leaned down and kissed me softly.

I wanted to push him away in fear of getting caught, but as soon as I felt him sigh and pull me closer, I melted against him and kissed him back. It was a slow, patient kiss. One filled with passion and longing. He ran his left hand up my back and through my hair as he slipped his tongue into my mouth, eagerly tasting more of me. I didn’t feel obligated to continue or stop, I was caught in the moment and wanted to enjoy every tingle running through my body.

As I ran my hands up his chest, I heard him release a soft moan in the back of his throat that immediately triggered something in me. I wanted to hear that moan over and over again. I wanted to be the reason he had to release such an involuntary plead as I had my way with him until he reached his breaking point. I wanted to control it. I wanted to find out what other sounds that beautiful mouth was suppressing and I wanted to do it now.

Our kiss became more aggressive as our mouths and hands explored each other. I didn’t even realize that he had backed me into a tree until I felt the hard bark between my shoulder blades scratching against me. Liam’s lips were on my neck now, leaving a hot trail of soft kisses as I ran my hand through his hair. His touch was a combination of rough and gentle, leaving kisses where he bit and rubbing where he scratched. I had never experienced such a thing, either a man was everything but gentle or everything but rough, never a mixture of both. It blew my mind how Liam and Charlie could be cut from the same cloth, but still be so different. Charlie knew how to get what he wanted and he did it well, but he seemed to have only one setting and that was to fuck. With Liam it felt more personal, more intimate. He seemed like the kind of man who knew how to fuck and make love at the same time, and I was eager to find out if I was right.

As if on cue, I heard a deep voice to my right ask what I was doing. Being on cloud nine, all I pictured in my head was this little angel on my right shoulder crossing his arms and tapping his foot at my actions. It wasn’t until I felt Liam pull away that I realized the voice wasn’t inside of my head, and as I came back to reality my little angel disappeared with a poof. I followed Liam’s gaze and swallowed hard as my eyes settled on Finn. His arms were crossed over his chest and he had this disappointed look on his face that made my stomach twist into a knot.

“I’m sorry… What was the question?” I asked Finn as I tried my hardest to catch my breath in a non-obvious way.

“Do you two have a death wish?” Finn asked looking from me to Liam.

I frowned.

“Don’t be so dramatic, Tim.” Liam said as he looked over at his brother.

“Dramatic? Do you realize what Charlie is doing for this girl?” Finn asked as he took a step closer to Liam, “I know you and Charlie have your differences but this is crossing a line, Liam. When the hell are you going to grow up?” Finn snapped.

“Finn.” I interrupted, “This isn’t one sided so why don’t you give him a break.”

Finn looked over at me as I spoke, “What the hell were you thinking? You know how Charlie is. If he would have saw that-”

“-But he didn’t. I’m sorry you had to see it but its not happening again so lets just forget about it, alright?” I asked him with a worried tone. He was right, I did know how Charlie was and I didn’t want to think about what would have happened if it was Charlie standing there instead of Finn. Even if Charlie isn’t so innocent himself.

I watched as Finn took in a deep breath and released it as he looked over at Liam, “If Charlie finds any reason to banish you from this place he’s going to banish me with you so DO NOT mess this up for me. Just because you hated it here doesn’t mean I do too, so no more making out behind trees and for Christ sake Liam, watch your six.” He said before he looked over at me, “Meet me back here in an hour, stretched out and ready.”

I nodded ‘okay’ to him and watched as he shook his head at us and walked back towards the temple. I felt awful for putting Finn in that position. He had been nothing but great to me and then I had to go and mess around with his brother.

Speaking of, Liam and I turned our attention back to each other once Finn was out of sight. I bit my lip as he rubbed his jaw line, both of us trying to hide an embarrassed grin. “Well.” I said as I looked down at the ground, “I should go get ready.”

“Yea, me too.” Liam said as he took a step closer to me. He reached out and lifted my chin so he could look into my eyes as he softly ran his thumb across my cheek. I wanted to lean in and kiss him again but I fought the urge and stood still. “I’ll see ya around, kid.” He whispered to me before he dropped his hand and walked back to the trail. I took a few minutes to collect myself before I headed back to the cabin. I was hoping that fifteen-minute hike would clear my head of all my emotional confusion, but unfortunately all it did was give me time to daydream.

After I got back to my cabin, I took a quick shower and searched my closet for some comfortable fitting work out clothes. I decided on a pair of black leggings, a white long sleeve thermal, and a black zip up vest. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail, slipped on my black tennis shoes, and jogged out the door.

I hadn’t spoken to Charlie yet and I really wasn’t in the mood to explain to him why I disappeared during meditation this morning. So needless to say, I planned on avoiding him at all costs until this evening, along with Liam. I didn’t need any more distractions, regardless of how good of a kisser he was.

As I jogged back to the temple, I thought of what I was going to say to Finn. I was embarrassed and truly felt bad about how irresponsible I was with Liam. Truthfully, I didn’t even want to bring it up but I felt like something needed to be said and an apology needed to be made.

When I walked through the temple doors, I heard Finn on the second floor moving things around. So I jogged up the stairs and greeted him with a small smile, “Hey.” I said just as he finished laying down a large thick floor mat.

He looked over at me as he stood up straight, “Hey, You ready?” He asked as he dusted off his hands.

“I feel like we need to talk about what happened earlier.” I said as I walked over to him.

“We’re here to train, not to talk.” He said firmly before he grabbed a pair of gloves and tossed them to me.

I stayed quiet as I slipped them on and examined them. They were black with wrist straps and padding around the knuckles. Finn explained what we were going to be doing as I tightened the gloves to fit my hands.

“The next few days you’re going to be learning about pressure points and blocking.” He said right before he shoved me down by lightly pushing against my right shoulder, resulting in me falling on my ass.

“And footing.” He added as he circled me. “If you don’t have the right footing, even the slightest hit will put you off balance.” He explained.

I got to my feet with a sigh and stayed silent.

“You’re always going to want one foot behind you to keep you balanced. Otherwise you’re going to be stumbling around like a baby giraffe every time someone throws a punch.” He said as he stood next to me. I watched as he demonstrated a good stance and had me follow his lead as we did a few shadow boxing exercises to get me comfortable with the footing.

After ten minutes of constant moving, my quads were burning and I was ready to be done, but we were only getting started. Finn used up our entire three hours down to the last minute teaching me how to block, and throw a punch, and what pressure points to hit. By the time we were done I was so sore, I could barely catch the water bottle he tossed to me.

“I have to go shoot guns later? How am I suppose to hold up a weapon if I can barely hold onto this water bottle?” I asked with a laugh.

Finn responded by handing me a twenty-five-pound weight plate and told me to hold it in front me of like a steering wheel until he says to stop.

That was the longest two minutes of my life. I learned then and there never to complain about a sore muscle again.

After I helped him clean up, he told me he would walk me to the mess hall and show me the around. I was about to tell him I could find it on my own but then I thought it might be a good opportunity to finally talk to him about Liam. We weren’t even three steps out the door when I turned to him, “So about this morning.” I started.

“Kate, listen, I don’t need to know about what you do or who you do it with, but you’re headed into a very dangerous situation if you keep seeing my brother.” He said as he started to walk. “Liam and Charlie only play well with each other when they’re on a job, other than that, they butt heads and challenge one another every chance they get. They’ve fought over a woman before and it wasn’t pretty. Trust me.” He explained as we walked into the forest.

“What happened?” I asked curiously as I walked next to him.

“In the end, she wanted Liam. He was cleared to leave and he never came back.” Finn said with a shrug.

I frowned, “What happened with Liam and that woman? Did they stay together?” I asked, terrified to hear the answer.

“They were married for a few years, then she got real sick and died. Charlie had talked to him a few times since then but Liam has always kept his distance from this place. Until now.” He said looking over at me.

“Oh…” Was all I managed to say. I wasn’t expecting an answer like that, I honestly don’t know what I was expecting.

“Ever since then he’s kept himself busy, dating here and there but mostly working.” He shrugged, “Honestly I don’t blame him for leaving but coming back and starting something with you is only going to get him killed. Not only is Charlie stronger now than he ever has been before, but he’s also more comfortable with violence. The idea of hurting Liam for something this small wouldn’t even phase him.”

“Would he ever hurt me?” I asked nervously.

“No, Charlie would never hurt you. He may try to scare the shit out of you, but he wouldn’t lay a hand on you.” Finn assured me.

“Right.” I said with a nod as I stared at the ground. “Is there anything else I need to know?” I asked.

“Probably, but we can save that for another day.” Finn said with a small laugh.

“Oh joy.” I joked as we kept walking, “What am I getting myself into.” I whispered.
